My mother had electric dishwashers from the day they became generally available (despite, or more probably because of, being a single Mum), she always said she could do without the washing machine; there were always laundrettes, but she wouldn't do without the dishwasher. I've had one all the time I can afford one. We still do some stuff by hand, glasses, kitchen knives, wooden or bone handled stuff and non-dishwash-safe crockery. And the occasional saucepan that doesn't come clean in the machine.

We finally got our liver last night, and very good it was too. Tonight I'm doing cajun tilapia fillets with a papaya salsa and roasted sweet potato.

The dishwasher is the most important invention in history .... next to the electric blanket, of course.

Have to disagree there, in my opinion it's the automatic washing machine that's liberated women (and it is mostly women!) most over the last 30 or 40 years.

Tilapia spreads in nth Qld
Reporter: Peter McCutcheon

KERRY O'BRIEN: A noxious fish sometimes referred to as the cane toad of the waterways has spread to one of north Queensland's biggest river systems. The tilapia, originally from southern Africa, has the potential to take over tropical rivers in much the same way carp has done to the Murray-Darling and scientists and amateur fishermen are critical of Queensland authorities for not taking action earlier to wipe out the pest."

Eat 'em up, SRD!

Dianel: The ones we buy are farmed in Africa. I'm not sure why tilapia is considered noxious, it will certainly be a pest, as many invasive species of both flora and fauna are. But then there are lots of 'imported' plants and animals that grow well here that add greatly to our diet, rabbits for instance, and peas. Wiki suggest that, although considered an invasive species, tilapia can improve the health of native fish by clearing invasive water weeds. Mind you the health benefits of farmed tilapia are questioned there too.

Mikleed: Ah, there's the difference, I'm British and happy to take advantage of all our cultural heritage, ties and influences. Not for me a diet made up solely of meat either roasted on an open flame or boiled and accompanied by boiled turnips. I'm surprised you don't eat potatoes though.

Today, because MrsSRD is off out to Movieola to see True Grit this evening we'll be eating our main meal at lunchtime; Duck breast in a red wine and shallot sauce with sautéed potatoes and peas.

Being technically correct - tonight we're having bread and cheese; because we went to the Farmers Market on Saturday there's still some Little Ryding and Millstone from The Bartletts in North Wootton (more info here), some Fosse Way Fleece from the Somerset Cheese Co. and a slither of gorgonzola piquante from Waitrose. That should do us but if not there's some cheddar from Greens of Glastonbury as well. With bread from Hobbs House bakery. All washed down with a couple of glasses of Richs cider that should satisfy the most zealous xenophobe - oops, I forgot the gorgonzola.
