Do you have the birth certif for any of the kids of Benjamin Pearson and "Eliza"?
to see if her name is Hamblett
she may have preferred name Eliza

I dont have any birth certificates re Benjamin as my focus has been to find the pre-marriage name of mother, Harriott. I will have to 'digest' what you have all kindly provided and decide my next step. Unfortunately, I am not living near a records office that will have the records so will have to plan another trip.

This is probably only useful for for BCC but as further background to this issue; a record was found on the IGI website which shows the death of John Pearson on 8 May 1840, aged 58 years, and his burial 'in Dudley' on 10 May 1840; his place of residence is shown as 'Mushroom'. This record corresponds with and supports the information known about daughter, Sarah Pearson; also a 'Transcript of Halesowen Parish Registers' shows that a John Pearson was baptised on 30 September 1781, and that he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Pearson.

Prompted by all the responses, I have obtained a copy of the birth certificate for Benjamin, son of Benjamin and Eliza Pearson.
This shows son Benjamin was born on 9 July 1844 in Mushroom Green and his father was Benjamin, a ' Nailer' and his mother was Eliza (formerly 'Collins').
So my identification of Benjamin's wife as Elizabeth Hamblett was incorrect.

There is an IGI record of the marriage of a Benjamin Pearson and an Eliza Collins in the Parish Church, Clifton-upon-Teme, Worcestershire; I assume this is St Kelem's Church in that village. Clifton is in the Malvern Hills, a long way from Mushroom Green!

Has anybody got any details of marriages in this church which may provide further confirmation about the parentage of Benjamin. I dont expect it will help with my search for Harriott but would help complete the family 'picture'.

Can anyone help to take this further to confirm Harriott's identity.

Given that (in theory) they rounded the ages down to nearest multiple of 5 in 1841 Harriett could have been just 55 while Mary could have been just short of 35 and so the difference would have been "only" 20 years -- certainly not that unusual in those days -- especially if the father remarried and it was actually a half sister

So Joseph could be the brother of Harriet
and then Mary would still be sister in law
