The previous link to the horseshoes, do you think they had been playing a game and had the picture taken at the end holding the horseshoes - that could explain it.

Hi All,
I'm the one who sent in the picture of the ladies.
As for Daniel Willetts and Elizabeth Shelley , they were married June 29, 1898 in Corry, Pennsylvania.
As far as the photo goes, it could have been taken in Erie, Pennsylvania where the family lived or else it could have been taken in 1920 when Daniel, Elizabeth and their son Earl came back to Old Hill to visit relatives and take care of family business there and in Lancashire.
I just have no idea as of yet. I just have all these old photos and I'm trying to put names to the people in them. And unfortunately my older relatives who could have helped are no longer living.
So I am open to any and all suggestions about the photo. It's a long shot but I figure there might still be someone out there who might recognize a face or location.
Thanks, Lisa

I don't think that lucky horseshoe orientation idea works everywhere. Here, they are usually hung with the points pointing down and it really gets on my nerves!
I think whoever said they women were playing a game is right. Like NL's link, I think they are a ladies team competing in Horseshoe tossing and I think it will turn out to be an American picture.

Did she lie on the marriage cert because of the age difference.

I've checked with Lisa who has confirmed that Elizabeth's age is
34 on that certificate
looking at it again, I agree with her so I've altered it on BCC and the post above

I agree I think it is American
The horseshoes look american
The guy on the bike ...an american bike...looks american
And to me the dress looks ...............american
but who are they...
If we think by the style of the dress maybe 20's or 30's
can we pinpoint when those drop waists and collars were in and that hairstyle looks 20's to me
but then girls are early 20's so born about 1900? maybe
