Great, now I need new underpants after lightning just struck one of our trees.

My youngest daughter was asking how far the thunderstorm was so I stood at the window to see if I could see any flashes.

Flash then one almighty bang and I stepped back quickly and went "a over t" as my Collie had decided to stand right behind me.

Highly amusing for all involved I am sure.

Probably my Mother In Law getting back at me for revealing her true identity in another thread...

This may be a daft question Mark , but what's the difference between the lounge room and the living room?
For me it's the same thing!

Lounge Room and Living Room are the same to many,

Lounge Room/Living Room and Family Room is another way of putting it.

The Lounge (Parlour) is on the bottom floor and where guests are seated and entertained.

The Living Room/Family Room is where we have the telly and stereo and is generally messier and where we can relax.

That always the distinction we have made.


Looks like the tree survived the strike. The lemon tree next to it is looking a bit sick though.

which again is different from the dining Room
and that a separate distinction from the Breakfast room
The Skullery I suppose could be the Kitchen we have both
and in the west wing is the Billiard Room
Room for a Pony in there

Yeah that would be Wolvies job
he does a lot of Skullking in there..or is it Sulking

anyway he is chief cook and bottle washer in that domain
and he does have a little frilly apron

Mother In Laws is flooded so I might have her staying over for a day or so....

Trouble is, I can't get to her because the main road is underwater and so are the back streets.

Hopefully they will drop levels sometime this morning.

I have lived in Boronia for 45 years and have never seen the intersection of Boronia Road and Dorset Road flooded.

I do remember sitting in my mothers Austin A30 in the newly opened supermarket on the corner of that intersection and it floating downhill after it bucketed down for five minutes.

That would have been the early 1960's.

But the intersection didn't flood.

I can't recall Moutain Gate, where MiL is, ever flooding.

I am rather sore this morning.

Wife asked where the broom was. I asked where did she park it last. No sense of humour at all today.

We regularly have flooding here, being a low lying country, so most people have experienced it. We had strong winds that coincided with high water friday night, so they were expecting the harbour in Esbjerg to flood, but it wasn't as bad as forecast. A little further up the coast there's a bridge over a small river estuary that is regularly under water - so much so that there are electronic signs to warn of flooding.
The river comes out into a bay, and if strong winds coming from the right direction coincide with high tide then there's flooding - usually happens about 3 to 4 times during the winter. The path I take into town goes along side the river and where it goes under the railway the path is lower than the river, so if the river's high then it flows round the concrete wall that's supposed to stop the path flooding it floods!
However the river doesn't flood as much as it used to, as the river now flows the way that nature intended and not the way that silly people thourght would be better!

It was black and was known as 'The Little Old Lady', and that's me at the back - pushing. I can remember having to get out at the top of hills when she boiled over and wait for her to cool down. The front passenger seat was hinged at the front to allow access to the back seats but there was no clip to hold it, what with no seat belts as well there was always a distinct danger of banging one's face on the windscreen under heavy braking. Also the 'semaphore' style indicators worked by electro-magnet which drained the battery if used too often. We went on to a MG1100 - sheer luxury comparatively.

Semaphore blinkers! Mum never trusted them so often waved her arm out of the window to indicate when we were turning right.

We are not used to flooding in this part of Australia. We are not near any major rivers. A small creek is what casued the flooding this morning.

Tommorow is the second anniversary of Black Saturday when nearly 200 Victorians died in a bushfire.

Weather is a bit different this year!

I suspect by Australian standards, our little "river" is a creek!
In danish they have a classification of waterways between stream and river, which there really isn't in english! In danish there are no rívers in Denmark! Our local "river" is about 4m across! The same size as the River Alyn where I grew up.
