Female Christening: 09 MAY 1842 St Martin'S, Tipton, Stafford,
Martha Hodgetts - International Genealogical Index
Female Christening: 09 MAY 1842 St Martin'S, Tipton, Stafford,
let us know how you get on if you send for it Kathy
So unless otherwise advised this will be moved within 24 hrs to archived section and brought back when new info forthcoming or when required

Hi it must be the same one as this one
1840
HODGETTS Mary Oldbury Sandwell Register Office OLD/3/56
you can send off to the Sandwell regis office or you can go via GRO
if you go via either say you only want if mother is Mary
that is what I would do

Hi, I have sent for the 1840 cert, so will know within the week who os named as marys father. But had a though today, if Marths birth record states her father as deceased then he could only have died within the 9 month earlier. It could be that his death was recorded at the same church as Marths christening took place. I wonder if anyone can do a lookup for the death of William Hodgetts, this may be another way to rule out or confirm he existed. What do you think.

How do you know that William is father to Martha it only said deceased no William
You need to know the church for a look up.
as so many churches.
I am wondering if that W'ton one could well be the marriage
as locks was the product for that area.
and on Phebes marriage he is not down as deceased...but!! that doesnt mean that much I see so many records where they are not down as deceased but upon checking are dead.
I wonder if he did actually die
and she maybe just left him
so martha puts down dead
and mary puts down william but on her marriage the first one does she say he is deceased...cos that would be very interesting.
Maybe he was still alive and that is why Mary Hodgetts ma couldnt marry William Siviter?

Hi, well there are a lot of maybe's so I will wait untill the cert arrives and see how to go from there, it may be the end of the line and I may never know if Mary was married or not.
Thnaks again

Hi
The birth cert for Mary came today and it is not for my Mary
Here are the details
West Bromwich Oldbury Counties of Salop and Worcester
19 April 1840
Mary Daughter of Benjamin Hodgetts, he was a butcher
Mother Mary Hodgetts formely Hodgetts (this seems odd)
Address Langley Row Oldbury.
So if is not who I am looking for where do I look next? Has anyone any ideas. If it was at all possible a parish record lookup might be better, if I could narrow down the birth.
Any help or advice would be welcome
Cheers
Kathy

That is a shame CG....
Have we this family on the census just to exclude them....
I know it should be William Hodgetts ....but who knows....
we need to look at this and go thru it again re father and who the daus of Mary do and dont put on the marriage..
Ok Eh? team can we look at this for CG?

Hi all, I have tried looking for other children on the IGI to Benjamin and Mary, there are a few and none match with the names I have on Siviter and Mary as in 1841 census.
It seems a shame to come so far and be stuck, its a funny affair, I still have a feeling mother Mary had been married before, she may have been widowed or just up and left.
I still do not have a birth for Mary, Martha, or Phebe Hodgetts, they dont seem to be on the IGI, which is odd for th area. If anyone can find a birth for any of them it might solve the problem, but where to look I do not know. If anyone can help please do.
Thanks for all your help
Kathy

Thanks for getting in touch
