Linell.

So what does 'Image looks like G Daur live at 70' mean?

The "70" & "71" are actual house numbers as they're written after the street name. The schedule numbers are
"181" & "182".

Ancestry has the nos crossed through, it looks like Adin with wife and Maria are at the Neptune in Powke Lane No 39 Sch 170 and Wm Mogg and Anne are in Wrights Lane at No 71 Sch 181, Wm Kesterton, George, Pamela and Lydia are next door at No 70 Sch 182, surely these are two adjoining houses, maybe their father owned two properties :?:

Linell.

Thanks kdw. that puts Adin still alive and helping out in his son-in-laws business at the turn of the century, probably putting his early carpentering skills to good use.

Regarding the properties, I suppose there are records of ownership somewhere, I remember that my mother had a folder of documents relating to the various changes of ownership of her house in Suffolk going back over several generations (it had been passed between various members of the same family, suffered change of use etc.) some of which were public documents (wills etc.) and others private legal documents. I don't know if that sort of thing can be readily found, somehow I doubt it. With the new land registry requirements things will be a lot easier for our descendants.

Equally I suspect tracking Ann Evans will be a bit more of a poser, it being a common name and her PoB showing up as different places.

Coming forward I can confirm here, but have no death certs etc. that both my grandparents, Fanny (known as Fay) Louise and Horace James Hingley are dead, Fanny in 1989 and Horace sometime in the 1970s. Also that Minnie Kathleen and Tom Tandy are dead (no sign of Tom's antecedents here as yet), Tom sometime in the early 1980s (I think) and Minnie within a few hours of her sister in 1989; it made the local papers, "Devoted sisters die within hours of each other' type thing (not that they wanted it that way, there was a little rancour between them towards the end) and had a joint funeral at a large cemetery/crematorium in the district. Mildred Johnson (née Hingley) pre-deceased her brother Horace, and her husband Jim Johnson pre-deceased her, but after great Grandma Lydia Hingley had died. Neither the Johnsons nor the Tandys had children and my grandparents only had the one son, Anthony Brian (known as Brian) who was killed in a Road Traffic Accident in Battersea (he was knocked off his motorcycle by a hit-and-run driver who jumped a red light.) in 1959 or 1960 (I've seen mention of both years).

Especially as 1871 has

102 Anson Street Dalton Lancs
Adin Hadley Head 33 Joiner employ 2 men Born Rowley Regis
Ann Hadley Wife 34 Born Preston Lancs
P Hadley Daur 7 Scholar Born Dalton Lancs
A M Hadley Daur 5 Scholar Born Dalton Lancs
Lyda S Nudly Daur 3 Child Born Dalton Lancs

There are two Daltons in what was Lancs then, one is on the outskirts of Barrow-in-Furness (now in Cumbria) so may be why they are shown as, alternatively, from Barrow and Dalton, Dalton may be more accurate as far as geography is concerned but registration may be at Barrow.

I've updated the census info on BCC - here

As NL suggests, If you can add a separate thread so that the threads dont become confusing and too long, that would be great cos I'm worn out now
