If I want to eat traditional british christmas fayre, then I have to get my hands dirty!
My husband (who hates dried fruit), shook his head, and said I was off my trolley wasting 7 hours (including steaming time for two batches) for only eight puddings.
Now if I'd made the danish (delicious) almond rice pudding which is the traditional danish christmas pud, it'd be a different story. You start by making a traditional rice pudding. Leaving it to cool down, mix in loads of whipped cream and chopped almonds. Serve it cold with warm cherry sauce. (Never tried that, may get my mother in law to show me how!)

Every year my mom makes five Christmas Cakes - one for each of her girls, always overdoes the brandy - bless. She makes wonderful Christmas Puds and trillions of mice pies and sausage rolls, these are always eaten as they're made. She thinks dieting is really bad for your health - so we have to have them. She's 91 now and a brilliant cook - she still makes traditional black country faggots, as long as one of us can go up and turn the mincer. Her bread pudding is to die for and she should get an award for her pickled onions. My kids loved her gravy when they were growing up - always said it was better than mine - I think it had something to do with the big slab of beef dripping that went into it.

Brings back memories Auntie Em, mam used to make us a christmas cake each and they were delecious , made them till the grand age of 93 years old then she had a bad fall and was not the same after that although mam lived another 3 1/2 years after that.

My Mum always made my Christmas puds, I thourght it was time to have a go myself this year. Was easier than I expected, so I'll definately be doing that again!!
Mum makes big ones, but seeing as my other half hates anything with dried fruit in it, I made mini ones. Served them for my in laws (their first time trying a British Christmas pud

). They seemed to like them, and best of all they tasted just like my Mums
As for mincepies, nothing beats my Nans. Her pastry was to die for! Nothing different with the recipe, must have been her lightness of touch. Mum's mincemeat with mashed potatoes and fried onions was always good too - pity she doesn't make it anymore.
