It looks as though they had settled in America by 1908, and had spent the summer in England (entered UK June and left for US in Oct.).
Cecil John J Polkinghorne was born Dec. 1903 in Truro, so would be 4 years old in 1908, so that fits.
I can't see a connection with my relative - will keep looking though!
An old family rumour suggested Kate may have settled in a mill town, possibly Halifax or Rochdale. I have no evidence of this and other family rumours have been found to be wrong!
