In the Victorian Police Gazette of the 14th November 1900, you will find a description of William Basterfield of 21 Osborne Street, South Yarra.
He has been granted a licence to "Collect Marine Stores" by the Prahran Court of Petty Sessions.
"English, 48 years, 5 feet 7 inches, fair complexion, grey hair and all round beard, straggling grey moustache."

I think they came over on the "Orient" as unassisted passengers in May 1884.

Basterfield364 and Matilda Jackson365. He was baptized on 28 September 1851, in Halesowen Worcester UK. Willam died
in 1929, aged about 78, in Glenhuntly, Victoria.Australia.
This is the William I beleive to be in the Police Gazette.

The birth of Wm 1851, would be Halesowen Worcs. Halesowen ceased being in Shropshire in 1844. Just wanted to clarify that point, otherwise it could lead researchers off on the wrong trail.
