Had a look on ScotlandsPeople
Marriage in the Parish of Dalziel, Lanarkshire:
1869 On the Fifteenth day of May
At Duke St., Motherwell
After Banns according to the ... of the Primitive Methodists
Signed Jacob Knight Puddler Bachelor
Age: 21
Usual residence: Duke Street, Motherwell
Father: ......(illegible - could be 'Simon') Knight Labourer (Deceased)
Mother: Elizabeth Knight m.s. Saunders
Signed Emma Lowe Spinster
Age: 20
Usual residence: Duke Street, Motherwell
Father: Bernard (could be 'Barnett'?) Lowe Labourer
Mother: Elizabeth Lowe m.s. Leadbetter
Witnesses: Joseph Rose, Sophia Lowe
Not a lot more detail on the 1881 Census:
At 33 English Buildings, Dalziel, Lanarkshire
Jacob Knight Head Mar 36 Iron Worker b. England
Emma Knight Wife Mar 29 Housewife b. England
Simon Knight Son 10 Scholar b. England
Jacob Knight Son 7 Scholar b. Lanarkshire, Scotland
George Knight Son 6 Scholar b. England
Jane Knight Daur 3 Scholar b. Lanarkshire, Motherwell
Emma Knight Daur 1 b. Lanarkshire, Motherwell
Catherine Knight Daur 6 mths b. Lanarkshire, Shieldmuir
Daniel Watchhorn Lodger 38 Iron Worker b. England
The fact that the address for the marriage is the same as the residential addresses for both Jacob and Emma makes me think that I may have been right about the eloping guess.

Yes Di, it certainly looks like they eloped! This genealogy lark really gets yer brain thinking doesn't it?
It took me forever to add all the info to Connections cos I kept wondering why they would have left all their families behind
Thanks for everyone's input
