I used to have a Suzuki 50cc, great when the wind was behind me, could reach 40mph along the New Birmingham Road. Never attempted to go UP City Road though, had to find the flatest roads to get up to the Rowley Hills. :-)

My husband's a motorbike enthusiast, he kept suggesting for years that I got a license too, but I saw through him when he said that I could then buy an off roader. What he really meant was that then he would have two bikes to choose from (he has a 15 year old VFR), so last year he finally got round to buying an off roader too. Not that with last summer's weather he's used either one that much.
I should maybe mention that my husbands motto is "the person who has the most toys when he dies wins", what you win is not explained!!

You husband would then be impressed by my Kawasaki 500cc 2 stroke Motocross bike.

Totally insane machine and just the thing for outrunning Bush Chooks. (Emus....6 foot high birds with no sense whatsoever who like to run alongside your bike and then cross in front...).

My dad had a 650 Thunderbird - we used to get a ton down the Hagley Mile about 50 years ago - when there wasn't so much traffic around. Dad used to swear me to secrecy - mom would have had a fit. Have to say though - well before the law made it compulsory - dad would never let us ride without crash hats. Had my first motorbike for my 17th birthday - Triumph Bantam - loved it. Me and dad used to go down to Wales visiting family, mom would spend an hour stuffing newpaper inside my leathers, to keep the heat in.

Dad was the first in his street in Smethwick to own any sort of car/bike. He worked for Norton but had BMW motorcycles because he could afford them! Even with staff discount the Nortons cost too much.

He always used Swallow sidecars and sometimes mum and a couple of kids would fit in it whilst the eldest child would ride pillion.

One of the first things he did when he got to Australia is buy a huge American car that we could all fit in as well as a couple of dogs.

One of the biggest regrets he has is selling the bikes instead of bringing them over.

I started off on a Raleigh moped, wrote that off on Westminster Bridge when someone turned down the Embankment across my front. Then I has a BSA C15 which had a C13 big end and I couldn't get spares so I swapped it for Triumph Tiger Cub which I sold to get a BSA A65 and sidecar which blew up so, having had enough of oil leaks etc., I bought a brand new Honda 250 (can't remember the type, it was the first of the plastic ones) I ran that into the ground and borrowed a mate's MZ which had a warped head, (I spent many a happy hour on the roadside replacing the head gasket but at least it could be done at the roadside) then I upgraded to a Honda 400/4 which was stolen, then another 400/4, they were great at nipping through London traffic, then, although I fancied the 900 Ducati (the slim black and gold one, I can't remember the type) I thought I'd work up to it with a 500 MV Augusta which handled like a pig and I wrote off in the passenger door of a Cortina whose driver liked the look of the pub on my side of the road and turned across the front of me. That was when I lost the use of my arm and damaged my knee so, although it is possible to drive with only one arm, I gave up on powered two wheels and bought a pushbike.

Gosh - didn't have much luck did you. My second bike was a Tiger Cub - loved it. My first car was a Ford Anglia.

My dad's first car was a Ford Pop. Used to get us all in, himself, mom and four girls for an unforgetable 12 hour drive to St Ives in Cornwall. No motorway - and plenty of stops for "I need a wee". We lived at the top of Darby's Hill, Oakham and when the weather was bad, I remember we all had to bounce up and down in the back going up Regent Road in the snow. - Ah the joys - remember Oakham in the snow Barb?

Ducati 900SS that would have been. Pretty bike. What did they call them back then...Cafe Racers?

Dad has told me the joys of dropping motorcycles in the snow and ice and having to try and push them to the gutter so he would have leverage to stand them up.
