Re: Nurse Child in Manchester
Yeah, and there's the odd thing about birth years and places changing. It's very hard to follow if it's really the same one.
I've been looking at this site
http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Manchester/Ch ... index.html
And can't see All saints church records being transcribed yet. It's the parish they belonged to.
http://www.manchester.gov.uk/site/scrip ... eNumber=14
Do you think these could have something?

Re: Nurse Child in Manchester
I think you need to have a look at that death certif for that Sarah
and include or eliminate her.
If you are near the archives at Manchester you could pop in and look at the holdings.
that st Denmark is off Oxford Rd so it could be the John Burns with father Wm Alfred
maybe the name was wrong on birth certif
Look at the electoral regis see who is living at 294 Oxford rd in 1908/1909 and 1910
and include or eliminate her.

Re: Nurse Child in Manchester
I'm nowhere close to Manchester unfortunately. Would love to have gone through the All Saints records.

This is a map of some of the places mentioned from the censuses we've been looking at. I have looked at an old map of Chorlton, and tried to plot in the missing streets in their approx locations. Shows how close they are.
Almost looks like to me that the Russells had a tendency to take in the strays of Chorlton. May Strong is listed as visitor in 1901, and a boarder in 1911, but couldn't it be possible they kinda took care of her all along? Just like they took Mary P. in.
About John Joseph.
The only place he's listed as a Joseph is in 1889.
and like this.
Another thing I find odd about tracing that family is the changing birthyears. And new marriages to different Annes? Sure, they may not have known and gone for an estimate.
William Alfred Burns
Approx birth years
1881 - 1847
1891 - 1846
1901 - 1849
1911 - 1845
Ann/Anne/Anne
1881 - 1847 born in Manchester
1891 - 1848
1901 - 1850 born in Liverpool
1911 - 1849 born in Kilkenny
I feel a bit like something weird happened in 1901, and it may not even be the same family. Atleast very hard to confirm that it is.

Re: Nurse Child in Manchester
The census info can vary on dobs and names
there seemed to be a birth certif for a JOhn Joseph I posted preve Chorlton right sort of year.
I dont think he and Sarah married.

Re: Nurse Child in Manchester
think looking at the electrol list for the cert address in 1909 might be a good idea to see if anyone else was in the house with sarah and same for 1910 & 1908

Re: Nurse Child in Manchester
So, go to Manchester?
Ok, I think I'll see if I can get that death certificate for Sarah Burns. Seems to be the cheapest option to try catch Sarah Gamble
I'm out of other ideas.

poss start with death cert, but a day out in manchester archive might help, if you do go to manchester ring and book a reader / computer first, find out time there open, dont go on spec, and write a list of thinks you want to find out before going as you always forget something if not

Would definitely make an extensive list if I went to Manchester. It's too long a drive from here (Norway) to end up forgetting something.

Re: Nurse Child in Manchester
I contacted Manchester Archives and used their research fee facility
I received this response re the electoral registers
Thanks for your enquiry.
I have looked at the electoral registers for 1908 - 1910, but the property you have specified does not appear on the registers for those years.
This is not unusual as the electorate was still quite small at that time.
Only men of property would be elegible to vote. Very few women would appear on the registers. Universal suffrage only dates from 1928.
I have also looked at the Manchester directories for the same years, but again there is no listing for this property.
So no luck there
think you will have to see if that certif holds any clues
