Looking at this with a fresh mind on it, I would think that Sophia must be a sister, you have all the proof you need with Jesse's daughter being in her household as Niece, could this baptism be Sophia:-

Hi Jan, oh that's a damn nuisance then, thought Thurza was a niece. Have noticed that all the family you have found were born Dudley or Brierley Hill, (Brierley Hill runs into Dudley) so that at least links them. Would be a good idea to find all the Marriages and see who the Witnesses were, making a list of them to double check. Linell.

Wow, I'm going to have to take some time tomorrow to absorb all of this. I did note in your last post that James was listed on a census as a shoemaker. If i remember correctly, Sophia was listed as working on shoes in one of the earlier census.
