If that is the one she would have only been about 15, and its a bit out of the area.

I have been trying to make some sense of this and here is what I have deduced so far:
Samuel Wood born 1842 & Mary Ann Heapy born 1873 were my great great grandparents
Mary Ann's parents were Eliza Heapy c1855 and Joseph Downs c1846/47
Joseph's father was Josephus Heapy c1809
Eliza's father was Samuel Heapy c1811 who first married Betty (Eliza'a mother) c1812. Betty died in 1868 (I found her death on FreeBMD), and Samuel went on to marry Susannah Downes in 1869
So what relation were Josephus and Samuel?
Samuel's father was Matthew Moss, so I assume his mother was a Heapy?
I still have no marriage for Samuel & Betty
Can anyone help please?

It also looks like Susannah was Joseph's mother so she must have been with Josephus first at some point, although I don't know whether they ever married as the 1851 census has her unmarried aged 36 and living with her brother:

Whetstone Ole, Quarnford.
Samuel Downs 33. Farmer. Unm.
Susannah Downs 36. Sister. Unm.
John Downs 15. Nephew.
Matthew Downs 6. Nephew.
Joseph Downs 4. Nephew.

I think i'm starting to get to the bottom of it now :-)

Girls could marry at age 12 and boys at age 14, I don't think you should dismiss just on age.
