My wife and I used to run Cottage Houses for abused children.

I would rather spend the time with the kids under our care than housework/gardening so I used to ring up the Corrections Board and see if they had anybody sentenced to do Community Service.

Brilliant Mark. A couple of years ago we took the kids to visit their grandmother's grave in Handsworth Cemetery and while we were there, took them for a walk around the graveyard in St Mary's - as you do. Jonathan had been doing some work at school on James Watt and Matthew Boulton, so we wanted to show them where they are buried.

There was a lot of activity in the grave yard from young men in hi viz jackets tidying up the undergrowth. My son in law asked them if they were volunteers or were they working for the council. One of the young men said that they were sort of volunteers, but working for the government. They were doing community service and lived in Winson Green. Have to say they did a lovely job.

Teasing aside, I'm very happy with my Dutch bike, it gets looked after like it was a Ferrari!

I agree with most that was said and we too use as much as we can local people or shops. Keeps thelife going where you live.

I did take a differant angle on what Rob was saying.
I thought it was out of concern for NL that he was thinking that she was paying for a cleaner so she can do genealogy...BCC, etc
May be I was wrong! But I still think that some of that was behind it too.

Too be honest, I hate cleaning.
I'd prefer to work hard at something I enjoy, and pay someone to clean than do it myself. When we (finally) have finished all the bits and pieces that need finishing off in our house then we'll probably employ a cleaner. To me it's not really that different to employing a window cleaner!
Of course the alternative is getting a robot vacuum cleaner (probably have it cleaning every day, then there's very little dust), but then someone would have to empty it every day

As most of you know I am a slave to domestic duties,
never without a duster in my hand or a pinny around my ample waist.

But I decided today to get some ladies wot are experts in!
And I have to say they were fantastic!
The best Clean I have ever ever had! The place is now a palace!!

And even better I got to talk Genealogy to them

2 real Black Country lasses and really friendly and excellent workers.
So would recommend them

Well I don't blame you Northern Lass , I keep up with my cleaning but can't say I enjoy doing it, we used to have a cleaning Angel in the family my dear sister RIP, she would clean for anyone and enjoyed it and some would say obsessed with cleaning and washing and like the ones you had Northern Lass left everything sparkling .

Life's too short for cleaning! If you can afford it, why not. It all helps with the economy, employing local people for their services. I employ a cleaner and will continue to do so whilst I can afford it. And hopefully my customers will continue to employ me for my services, whilst they can afford it. Talking of Butchers - it has to be Guests on the Stourbridge Road, Halesowen!

and remembers a Mum who had time to play
There will be years for cleaning and cooking
But children grow up when we are not looking
Cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow

I'm cuddling my baby, and babies don't keep
