Hi, I am still searching for Albert and have come across an Albert Parks on the 1911 census but can't view the image, it says Albert Parks born 1884 Kent Dover, living Southwark 1911. This is the location Albert was living when he married in 1912. I can't seem to find another Albert living in Southwark around that time. I have now got my parents marriage cert and Albert is down as a masterbuilder ?

I've had another look at the marriage cert and it says Albert 22, porter and Ethel Emma Kettle 21, laundress, Ethel's birth cert says she was born in 1894 so she would of been 18 not 21. I'm wondering if Albert lied about his age to ?. Also wondering if they were working in a hotel as they were porter and laundress and if so maybe the same one ?.

That's a good thought Rachel - wonder what hotels were around at that time - they might have lived in.

I know it sounds like i'm clutching at straws but Albert has been a mystery for so long within the family that i have to keep digging away until i find him. Everyone's help is greatly appreciated and any idea's can only help.

Another thought Rachel - it might be worth your while getting in touch with the archives that house the Electoral Roll for Rodney Place. With a bit of luck you can find out who's living at that address in 1912 or thereabouts. Try contacting the West Surrey Family History Society, which covers the area at : http://www.wsfhs.org/ParishMap.htm

Another thought is that perhaps Albert didn't have a father and made him up (like my granddad did) on his marriage. He could even have been born overseas.

Thank you Maggie for all your help, i will contact the West Surrey Family History Society and see if they can help. I do strongly believe the name Rogue is made up and it seems slightly strange that none of Albert's children were named John, after his father, which seemed to be the custom back then. Sadly i was only 24 when my own father died, so i don't know a lot about the Parks family but was told they came over from Ireland but i have no dates when that might of happened.

Hi, another piece of info i have just come across is the Kettle family (Ethel's parents) changed their names from Kettle to Hyde sometime between the 1901 and 1911 census. Even though Ethel married under the name of Kettle she could of been using the name Hyde as well. I'm wondering if an Ethel Hyde was listed at 100 Rodney Place at the time of the marriage. If Albert was in the army (listed as disabled soldier 1922) he could of been over seas when the 1911 census was taken ?.

The name change from Kettle to Hyde could just be a mistake on the 1911 census, wrongly transcribed.

Hi, thanks for pointing that out but the name change from Kettle to Hyde is not a mistake and hasn't been wrongly transcribed on the 1911 census. Looking back at the notes i have i did make a mistake and say between 1901 and 1911 census, when in fact i should of said 1891 and 1901 . When i started my research for the Parks/Parkes family tree i was looking for Albert Parks and Rachel Hyde, the names my father had given us for our Grandparents. It came as a great surprise to find my father's birth cert (oldest child) stated Kettle as mother's maiden name. Their next two children's birth certs stated Hyde as mother's maiden name and the last child's birth cert as Kettle again. I have done a lot of research on that side of the family and have recently made contact with a cousin whose mother was Ethel's sister. She has been researching the Hyde family since 1980 and has all the birth, marriage and death certs. Over the weekend she sent me all the info which confirmed all the facts i had found myself.

Charles "Albert" James KETTLE born 11 Dec 1883, reg Mar qtr 1884 Islington, baptised 2 Oct 1885 (married as Charles Albert J HYDE to Amy BUEY, Dec qtr 1909 Barnet, and the two of them - his name listed as "Albert" - sailed to Canada on 22 March 1910)

Arthur Francis KETTLE born 20 Mar 1886, reg Jun qtr 1886 Pancras, baptised 9 Apr 1886 (He enlisted, as Arthur HYDE, with the 3rd Bedfordshire Regiment on 2 March 1916 but was discharged medically unfit 38 days later on account of "chorea". His mother, Julia Emma HYDE of Barnet, was noted as his next of kin).

Harry KETTLE born 30 April 1888, baptised 6 May 1890 (birth possibly registered as William Harry KETTLE, Jun qtr 1888 Edmonton, though he was baptised simply as Harry)

Ethel Emma KETTLE Sep qtr 1894 Pancras

Blanche KETTLE Dec qtr 1896 Pancras ( married in Kingston, 1919 as Blanche M K HYDE to Allen Griffith PREDETH and died as Blanche PREDETH aged 70 in Gosport in 1966. Allen Griffith PREDETH died in Poole in 1988 aged 94.)

Now for the strangest fact..

William James KETTLE's maternal grandparents seem to have been called HIDE or HYDE; he (aged 4 months) and his father William were in their (HIDE) household in 1861: RG9/122/19/35.

So as you can see there is a lot of mystery surrounding my family and i have gone to great lengths to find out as much as i can. I have even found six children my father had before he married my mother that my siblings and i never know about . So why oh why can't i find Albert Parks
