Margaret Woodman, wife, 56
John Weedman, son, 24, no employment (it says imalid I pressume should be invalid)
Thomas Woodman, son, 20, Fisherman

now that looks absolutly brilliant. a quick question

assuming 1871 census margaret A Bitte << can i assume she could be adopted, as in teh 1881 her name has changed from margaret A Bittie to > Maggie A Woodman.

Can i also assume that any names from 1871 - 1881 or should i say any new names are births? and also thereafter any names missing are deceased. if thats understandable lol

Thanks a million for your help

I havent seen the actual image so what I gave you is just a transcription from Ancestry, probably with errors!
Some children could be with family, away working or deceased? I didnt look for them just Joseph sr.

I just looked on the IGI and it has this
Extracted IGI
MARGARET ALICE WOODMAN
Birth: 27 JUL 1869 Annan, Dumfries, Scotland
Father: JOSEPH WOODMAN Family
Mother: MARGARET MARTIN

So I think it must be a transcription error?

other births all extracted
parents Joseph and Margaret
1. HUGH WOODMAN - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 23 MAY 1867 Annan, Dumfries, Scotland

2. JANE WOODMAN - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 17 MAR 1871 Annan, Dumfries, Scotland

3. JOSEPH WOODMAN - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 09 AUG 1865 Annan, Dumfries, Scotland

4. MARGARET ALICE WOODMAN - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 27 JUL 1869 Annan, Dumfries, Scotland

5. SUSANNA WOODMAN - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 13 MAR 1873 Annan, Dumfries, Scotland

Margaret A Bitte may be adopted, it looks a bit strange, as Jane is only six months older! This age may be a mistranscription, Bitte may be a middle name, there are a few possibilities. Looking at the next census I'd say the age should read 1 year!

As far as people being deceased if they're not on the next census, don't assume it, they may just not be present the night of the census. I have a few people who are staying/living with other relatives on a census. The people in question may have married, or have gone into service somewhere. Of course sometimes the only course left open is to make assumptions, but it's a good idea to make a note that it is an assumption!
I've found deaths frustrating, as it's not always easy to find the correct one, but mostly this is just icing on the cake. The main things to confirm are births and marriages - that's where it's a good idea to be really sure, otherwise you can end up researching the wrong people!

I thought you could see trees on ancestry without being a member but you cant!

Does anyone know if you join without paying can you see?

Anyway there is a tree on there, owned by wjgraham49

it says
Joseph born Overton Lancashire, Married Margaret Martin died Summergate Annan 28 jan 1924

Mother Margaret Woodman, married John Rawlinson Lancaster 1845, marriage to unknown

Wife, Margaret Martin, bon Annan, father, Hugh Martin, born Co Down, Ireland, married Sussannah Mc Neil 1857. His father John Martin died Annan, mother Mary Hastings

I can't see that tree if I'm not logged in. Is there anything specific you want?
As far as I can see there are no sources down on that tree - not suprising when it's mainly Scottish.

I think you can create a tree without paying and then you can see trees if other people invite you but not otherwise

You can certainly set up a free account, can't seem to find out how much you can see on other people's trees though!

Evening guys.

Thanks for the replies and thanks for the familysearch.org that site is amazing and errr free. at the moment i am leaving joseph 1845 where he is, until i get more credits tomorrow and do proper research their does seem to be quite a few joseph's and dont want to follow the wrong route, but using that site above i have managed to get margaret martins parents details, which were Hugh Martin and Susan Oniel, both ireland 1815 & 1819 married 1840, so at least i have some irish in me lol. i am registered on ancestry quite a few years back so no free search for me, but tomorrow ill get a 6 month pass and see what comes of it. i am keen to follow the irish tho

Thanks Again guys for putting in some time for me, you have saved me quite a bit

Go steady with Scotlands people and search and narrow down first before you spend, brilliant what you get but dont waste your credits!

You cant take IGI for granted either, its transcribed records, very good, especially extracted records. That is in the process of changing and I dont understand how it all works now to be honest.
You can order the films in at your local lds. I dont know what area you live but there is a search facility you can find here

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... et_fhc.asp

It doesnt cost much to get them in.

Freereg too I didnt look there, transcriptions too mind
http://freereg.rootsweb.com/

Keen to follow the Irish  good luck there! May need tosave your pennies for a trip there!

If you are stuck, just give us a shout.
But I would be careful and steady how you go about it. You dont want a list of names you know nothing about and certainly not climb another tree.

Oh I was going to say too, dont take other trees for granted, it may be wrong, best searching yourself.
Happy hunting!
Jo :)

Lol too late for the wasted credits, yesterday was a bloody nightmare but i have pretty much followed the marriages and birth records and triple checking everything and im 99% positive everything i have so far is correct, obviously minus the dates as it has been said they can be inaccurate.

Is the Irish history harder to get details for?

my next port of call would be to get the birth records for joseph woodman from overton Lancashire to get the details of parents etc but if i need help ill certainly ask.

Thanks Again
Nathan
