I used to work in the office at Green Shield Stamps in Dudley late 1960s early 1970s. The offices were opposite the Three Crowns pub on the High Street. Hansons Brewery was at the back of the pub and In the summer when we had the windows open the smell from the hops was absolutely disgusting.

We still have our weighing scales which we had with the stamps, still using the scales, but I think they're not working properly as when I stand on them I'm only 9stones - only joking. Mmmmm wonder how much they're worth now.

I was impressed last time i saw her at The Tower Edgbaston March 21st 1966!! Looks are not important to me Holly!! I'm not a shallow person you know it's what's inside that counts!!!

All a matter of taste, I love that brewery smell.

Ah yes Rob, I remember the Tower well - all dancing around our handbags, yours was pink if I remember right?

Talking about hair, had it done today - darker base with a few blonde highlights (hope it washes up a bit lighter)

I used to visit the Tower Ballroom too San and Rob, usually on a Sunday afternoon when nothing else was open, can distinctly remember a large pink handbag in the middle of the floor San, always wondered how anyone could find it appealing. Lin.

Went with a gang of mates one Saturday and one of us fell in the ressa after a few too many. Very cold, very wet and very smelly ......... Do you remember those lights ? My friend once put cotton wool into her bra to help with her cleavage and you could see it through her dress.

So suddenly it's not Social History it's a thread in The Snug!!!

Despite the ramblings of some,who shall remain nameless,this thread in my opinion was the essence of Social History ! Combining Grocery Emporiums with Dance Halls of a bygone era.Brilliant!!

Thanks for that Mally - bet it's not so much fun now. I'll never forget when we walked through the main door, there would be guys standing all around the first floor balcony eyeing up the talent. We did enjoy it though, no drugs and no-one spiking your drink, really good music and non-stop dancing.

Oh yes - do you remember the old Co-op, when you gave them your money, they put it into a little pot and screwed that to something on a pulley - it then went winging its way across the shop to a lady sitting in a glass office - she would take out the money, put your change back into the little pot and send it back to the assistant. Absolutely fascinating

I remember those Auntie Em, our co-op used to use them and some of the other stores had them also I would stand and watch them for ages.
