The couple in question were under age and therfore married by licence, so I assumed, maybe in error, that I might may able to get more info from the licence.
Sue you should have asked them first if they hold copies of Marriage Licenses. The one I have for a Dudley Marriage was at Worcester Record Office. As Maggie says it is more than likely at Stafford Record Office, that is the County Archive, but as I said you need to ask them at Sandwell first off. Good luck from Linell.
I did! They said they had "the entry", I assumed we were working off the same page!

Snoops if you not happy and spent some money then write to them
detailing what you are not happy about.
They are pretty good there, but you are the customer and they appreciate
feedback I am sure.

I have written them an e-mail, so I'll wait and see what they have to say!

That's terrible Sue, you obviously got someone there who doesn't know what they are doing!

I recieved a prompt reply today!
Thank you for your email. I apologise for the error, a lot of people ask for a marriage licence, but most of them mean the entry from the parish register. We only hold licenses here if they have been deposited as part of a collection of family papers. I have checked our database to see if there is a licence for George Wearing marrying Elizabeth Gittoes, but I am afraid we do not have it on deposit.
Licences were usually deposited with the Diocesan Office. All Saints church is part of Lichfield Diocese, the Lichfield Diocesan Office offer a Research Service. Their email address is
lichfield.record.office@staffordshire.gov.uk I am sorry we were unable to help, but wish you luck in your research.
So I'm going to get in touch with Lichfield, and express myself so there can be no mistake this time!

I've recieved the reply from Lichfield:
Thank you for your email. Our holdings of marriage allegations are arranged in bundles by year then by initial letter of the groom's surname but they are not in any particular order within the bundles. We would therefore have to carry out a search to see if we hold a marriage allegation relating to George and Elizabeth. We can carry out this search for a stand fee of £12 which includes copies of any documents found and postage and packaging. For this fee we can search for records relating to up to 3 separate marriages where the date and place of marriage is known.
Please note that after the introduction of marriage certificates in 1837, marriage allegations generally do not contain any more information than can be found in the marriage certificate.
