Hi all, hate to throw a spanner in the works but Benjamin was born in Kingswinford :!:

See here from James Hingley's Will:-

Martha married Benjamin Col(l)ey, a chain maker, and had six children. Benjamin was born in Kingswinford, which is where he married Martha

Linell.

we have a Benjamin Coley in 1851 living next door to Mary Coley nee Whitmore

now she marries in 1829 Timothy Coley

I have seen this name before I think linked to John b 1776

and I think Benjamin is son of john 1776

MARY WHITMORE Spouse: TIMOTHY COLEY Family
Marriage: 19 JAN 1829 Saint Thomas, Dudley, Worcester, Extracted

MARY COLEY Christening: 12 MAY 1799 Cradley, Worcester,
SARAH COLEY Christening: 24 MAY 1801 Cradley, Worcester,
NANCY COLEY -Christening: 16 JAN 1803 Cradley, Worcester,

PHEBE COLEY Christening: 02 APR 1820 Cradley, Worcester,

That name Caroline I think links Benjamin / Anne
and the occup for John too on later bapt

from transcripts courtesy of Linell

earlier ones just say son of John and Sarah and Da of John and Sarah.

Jane 1815 da of John and Sarah Coley Cradley Heath Forgeman
Samuel 1818 Cradley Forgeman
Phoebe 1820 near the Ashes Forgeman (that is Cradley)
Caroline 1825 Cradley Forgeman.

so prob born out of county

You know I was looking this morning at this family and going to add but then got tied up.

I cant remeber exactly now why I was a bit cautious about it though.

Something to do with a John as a forgeman, Humphrey and is it Bellbroughton?

Is that a place and if yes where would that area be?

Jo :?
Going to look and see if I can find what I was looking at but have got yet more visitors soon.

Bellbroughton is Clent

the trouble is there are Coleys marrying there too.

What we don't know is how this John born 1776 links to the other Coleys
I think his parents are JOhn Coley and Sarah Smith
Timothy is his brother

I wonder if John b 1776 links as bro to Apollos
but no bapt...... :?

As Lin says if Benjamin married kingswinford he prob put otp
so place of birth is unclear if 1841 he puts no to b in cty
and 1851 he puts Cradley Heath

this is good though
3 Nov1839 St Thomas Dudley
Samuel COLEY O B Forgeman Cradley Heath Parish Of Rowley Regis Father John Coley Forgeman
Elizabeth BARNSLEY O S Cradley Heath Father Thomas Barnsley (Dec) Fruiterer After Banns Samuel signed the mark of Elizabeth
Wit; Eliza Barnsley X William Horton

and John and Samuel next door at sched 112 and 113 on 1851
1841 think John is still near Mary Coley Humphrey etc etc

bapts confirm occup as a forgeman

later census changes occup I think

Yes the Newtown one is ours
he must start off as a forgeman and then ends up as an ag labourer

his son is that Samuel
the bapts say forgeman
marriage forgeman
1851 next door to son

I have put notes on

and am now going to fill in Samuel
