Yes, I think you would be right. I just have no other info supporting it yet as I can only search with ancestry.com ect.. when I go into the library. Next time I go in I will try to see if there are names for the witnesses to William and Elizabeth's marriage, however I think I recall there being no other info. It looks like census records don't go back this far or further? Is it basically just relying on birth, death and marriage information from here on in?

you will have to contact cambridge archieve for a full copy with witnesses

Downham church's website suggests they may be able to help with research and parish records.
