Jo :)

Good Idea Jo!

RR what are the names of their kids that married in 1913
don't want to post them as although we can find them for that couple
if there are any
you need to be shown how to do that

so just let us know one of them for this couple and we can show you how to
find the maiden name.

RR
I have been re-reading this thread this morning and feel it would be helpful to you and us if we could review what is fact and what is family lore.

The above is the info you gave to start us off.

Where did you get this info -- was it all from one source or was it bits you had put together from different people/conversations?

Sorry for the confusion this is what I know: Lilian Wilkinson Nee Dindale was married to Robert H Wilkinson in Stockton 1913. Her Parents were Mary Elizabeth Dinsdale nee Adamson D.O.B. 02/12/1873 and Matthew Dinsdale D.O.B. 10/12/1871. I have a copy of their marriage cert.
With your help I have managed to find a record of a Dinsdale marrying Robert H wilkinson as above, but with no brides christian name. So I need to confirm that this is the marriage I am looking for as the marriage cert will offer up D.O.B info that I need for my grandfather Robert as I have no info at all regarding this side of the family.

Regards RR

That is just the way the record shows up i.e. name plus surname of spouse.
If you click on the blue number towards the right (192 in this case) then you get a list of all the names entered on the same page and there it gives Lilian's first name.

In the older marriage records (forget the cut-off date) then couples are not linked together in this way, all you can see is the names of the people entered on the same page. So if you search for a groom you will have two or three possible brides! Sometimes it is possible to work out which is the correct bride by comparing the names with the census.

Jo gave you this link as well

http://www.middlesbrough-indexes.co.uk/search.php

Those are records put together locally rather than nationally like the freebmd one. So on there you will find the marriage listed differently and it is clearer who is married to whom.

That marriage will verify the father for both of them RR

So because of the freebmd info you know that in 1913 a Robert Wilkinson married a Lilian Dinsdale.

Are you putting this lot on anything on the computer ie a tree?

You seem to know the parents of Lilian so as MG says what do you have and then we can
logically guide you through it.

You could find the family on the 1911 census.
Do you have the marriage for her Parents?

Best if you decide what you want next and we can guide you to finding it.

Thanks for your info Northern Lass.
As I need more info on my Grandfather side at present I will be requesting Birth and Marriage certs for him to ascertain his father etc. Would this be the way to go?
We Know the names of all children from the marriage but do not need to take that further yet.
Regards
RR

Ok well you could find, using that free bmd his birth certificate Volume no and page no
there is one on there that fits
then you can choose to send for the marriage for Robert
when you have the marriage you can then send for the birth saying that you only want it if the
father is such and such
Local registry offices are normally very helpful

Do you have access to any census?
You could look for a Robert H Wilkinson on Ancestry or find my past or another site
do you know his occupation in 1913 at all?
The 1911 would be a good one to look at

ps when was his birthday?
if you notice the births are in quarters of the year

Did you phone Stockton office?
The volume and page number you find on freebmd are not the same as the refrence number on local offices. A local office can only find the entry using their own numbers.

Usually a name is enough RR to give the Registry offices and they will often,
do a sweep 2 years either side of a date using the relevant search info you give them.
So if you don't know the numbers the particular regis office use don't worry they will guide you, and it is always best to only
use a local number (regis office certif no) if you are very very sure that is the ancestors certif.

The Vol and Page numbers can be used by the GRO the General REgistry Office to order a certif
and they have their own website and you can order online or in writing or I think over the phone.
