Hi Jimmy and all,
WOW!! I wasn't expecting this response, you guys are so kind. Hopefully when I know alittle bit more about researching I can offer my assistance aswell
I have this one in my notes and have seen it on the census, it's one of my ancestors. Not sure why they have it as Melren_E Newell, but as you say the image says Melvena. It's not the one I was talking about, my Melvendon appears in the 1881 census, the daughter of John and Phoebe
Cheers

Ordered this death cert along with her fathers death cert, they only died about one year apart. Just interested in finding out why they died, have heard disease was rife at that time in Dudley.

Think I've been very silly, looking at these two census's again it is obvious that Melvena in the 1871 census is Melvendan in the 1881 census. It has to be her the ages match up. You can tell I'm new to this family researching!! Thought I was looking at two seperate people, why on earth the name Melvendan came about I have no idea.
Feel abit silly now
Cheers

Thanks for that Peter, The family never really moved from the Spennymoor area, I remember going their as a child to visit relatives on my grandmothers and grandfathers side in the 80's and 90's
I'm fairly certain that Noah Newell is my Great Grandfather and his daughter Doris my Grandmother, Still trying to work this out. I can't really remember Spennymoor, even though I came from Darlington I only went half a dozen times when lived up there.
Thanks for the link to the colliery, I'll have alook tomorrow as it's abit late now
