Hi Annie
I was hoping for an address search in the 1891 census to see who was at:

43 or 45 School Lane, Castleton, Rochdale
and
104 Drake Street, Rochdale

Those are the addresses from 1881 and 1901 and School Lane seems to be a side road off Drake Street. Since the Spencer father is a shopkeeper in 1881 and his daughter Sarah is a confectioner in 1901 (sweet shop perhaps?) I wondered if these addresses could actually be the same, a corner shop perhaps which had an address change from the post office. So, my hope is that the Spencer/Winterbottom family were also there in 1891. I don't have Findmypast but it seems to be possible to search by address there.
If anyone could post details of a family on both street then I could look around and see if Fred is lurking there.

Just wondering whether as the family appear at the bottom of the page in the 1891 census book Frederick got missed off accidentally -- there is a spare line as though maybe he wanted to go and check something but then forgot to go back and fill it in!

Did you find the family in 1891? I can't find any of them  Who is head of the household in that entry Mathsgirl?

I have been reading with amazement all the efforts people are making on behalf of my search for Uncle Fred. The determination everyone is showing is very much appreciated and please all, accept our very grateful thanks and appreciation. It has certainly had us stumped as to what happened to him.

Thanks again

David

I am deeply grateful to everyones efforts in trying to find the elusive Uncle Fred.

Could I ask for any suggestions please that I might take up locally to see if I can try and find where he went either geographically or perhaps died at a young age.

Many thanks once again

David
