If you mean search 'Public Member Trees' it looks like it, who are you looking for and I'll try it out

Seems to be working OK now. Last week it kept telling me that someone else was using my account! I'm sure they were not. Lots of glitches from time to time. It's just too popular, I suppose.

Was my Dads cousins I was Looking for, when I search its just blank even if I put in the surnamr Smith nothing is there.

Ancestry changed a lot of their menus and look and feel last week.

This caused a lot of issues if people hadn't cleared their browser cache.

The main change is the ability to add media to any event.

i.e I uploaded a lot of original documents such as Baptism records and pictures of headstones but could not connect them to the events.

Now when you look at a Baptism the uploaded document is shown as a thumbnail next to the event and the photo of the tombstone is next to the burial event.

Mark -- for me as a technophobe -- what is a browser cache and how would I clear it?

Depends on your browser.

For Firefox - Tools - Clear Recent History - Make Sure "Cache" is ticked - click "Clear Now".

Internet Explorer - Tools - Internet Options - General TAB - Browsing History - Delete

Thank you -- can you describe in layman's terms what is actually happening when you do this?

Web pages are made up of different elements.

Some of the page is calculated and drawn as you download it. HTML is the language used for that (plus some others nowadays).

Some of the page consists of static elements such as pictures, photos, logos, JAVA etc.

Rather than having to download these static elements everytime you open the page your browser places them in a cache.

For example, you open a page and it says "place picture "A" here".

You browser will look in the cache to see if picture A" has already been downloaded.

If so, it will be placed on the page without it having to be downloaded.

This saves time (the page will load faster) and bandwidth.

A good example on this forum would be people's Avatars. Your cache will hold a copy of my avatar and not have to dowload it everytime.

Sometimes a static element is redesigned but given the same name.

The page expects the element to be a particular design but if it is already in your cache, it may be the old design that it tries to use.

This was the case with Ancestry. Some static elements had changed but many people had the old design in their browser cache.

Deleting the broswer cache deletes all of these static elements so that the newest ones are dowloaded when you open the page.

It is to keep my brain working properly that I took up genealogy. Narcolepsy stuffs up your thinking processes and memory something cronic. So genealogy is therapy as well as a hobby.

Computers have been my bread and butter for over 30 years. Reducing all the jargon to simple english is a skill you aquire after helping people with the evil devices for all those years.

I don't think looks are top of the list for NL!!
