Di i used to go from the Hoek to Harwich but they've taken the fast boats off now and instead of 3 hrs it takes 8 hrs so i prefer to drive to Dunkirk or Calais and travel to Dover.90 minutes to 2hrs great. And,as people who know me will tell you i'm not a tight wad just careful,it only costs 83 euro return Dunkirk-Dover.That's the car and 4 people!!

Terrific, Cid!

What a shame, Annie, it would have been lovely to see you.

I'm looking at B&Bs in Worcester at present. Does that sound a good plan? Does anyone have other suggestions? I like staying in B&Bs rather than hotels as I like to meet the people. Also I have an urge to stay in smaller towns or countryside rather than big cities (just a country girl at heart).

We actually paid for our air tickets yesterday - So we're committed! Yay!

Rob, I looked at catching the ferry across from either Dunkirk or Calais, but it's really difficult to get on as foot-passengers. The Dunkirk one, you absolutely have to have a car. So now we're playing with the idea of crossing from Cherbourg to Poole.

Ijmuiden to Hull is also a ferry operation.
Ijmuiden's only 30 minutes from me but the sailing? takes about 10hours i think.
How far is Hull from the midlands Peter? How many hours driving is it?

hull to brum about 140miles take about two and a half hours just down M62, M18, M1 all motorway nearly
would of thought you could get a trian though or a bus ?
