Hi adrian
Not sure what you have and what you don't have :-)

Is this your Thomas's son?

Margreth ditto 34 Nova Scotia Halifax
Rachell ditto 10
Annie ditto 7
martha ditto 5
Margret ditto 3
Thomas ditto 1

Also saw this and wondered if he was one of the soldiers?

Hi,

Ann ditto 40 Ireland

Really well spotted Gardner and I've found the same Thomas Dellicott on the 1861 and 1871 census living in Crewe and Nantwich Cheshire

On the 1861 and 1871 census it gives Banff in Scotland for the place of birth for Thomas which matches perfect the soldiers information I found but I don't think this is my Thomas because the wifes names don't match, however It's such a coincidence that Thomas born in Scotland with such an unusual surname should crop up in Oldbury (next door to West Bromwich) on the 1851 census.

I'm wondering where he was on the 1841 census because of the unusual surname and residing in Oldbury-West Bromwich area maybe he's connected because all of the Dellicotts living there at that time seem to be related to each other.

Yes 100% the Thomas Dellicott you mentioned is the son.

How my Lord this family research is giving me such a headache

I think I'll investigate further before ordering those military pension records.

Many thanks
Adrian

Hi,

Gardener found this
1851
Oldbury
Thomas Della?ott 52 bricklayer lab and Chelsea pensioner Scotland
Ann ditto 40 Ireland

I've found on the 1851 census Matha Dellicott born abt 1831 (place not known) and Emma Dellicott born abt 1837 (place not known) living a few doors away from the above and they are brickyard labourers. These two girls match perfectly (dates and names) the two children of my Thomas and Mary Dellicott and it must be the same family.

Gardener I think you may have just helped crack this.

Many many thanks everybody and what do you think because it seems to be adding all up.

Regards
Adrian

Hi again,

I think I can explain why Thomas's wifes name on the 1851 census is Ann not Mary, I've found a marriage entry for Thomas Dellicott who married Ann Kerwin in 1849 at Christ church, Oldbury so It looks like Mary must have died between 1841-1849 and Thomas remarried which maybe the reason his two daughters from his previous marriage are lodging nearby.

This Thomas born Banff, Scotland must be my x? Great Grandfather.

Regards
Adrian

Perhaps this is Martha's marriage then?
DELLICOTT Martha HALE William Oldbury, Christ Church Sandwell Register Office 12/1/294

You could probably ask for lookups for the two marriages?

The name variations make it so hard to find this lot!
I did notice a Mary Delicoct/Dellicot in the 1841/51 census in West Brom. she has children but not husband it seems. She is a brickmaker too, born Isle Of Wight about 1814 according to 1851. I wondered if she was a relation of some sort.

Hi NL,

Many thanks for your help and the information seems to fit perfectly.

I will with pleasure add the information onto the BCC and can also add some further details of the extended family that remained in the Black Country area.

Kind regards
Adrian :P
