Oh dear - this is a subject I hoped to bring up later ----

Benjamin TOY born 1882 Stourbridge, father Edwin, mother Matilda (Detteridge)

Can't find him at all on 1901 census, could there have been an error and misspelling of the name - Tay or Tye?? This happened with my own father's names so I know it can happen.

HOWEVER ------ grandfather reappears in 1905 with an 'e' on the end of his name and marries grandmother. My American cousin can cast no light on this mystery either.

So - you clever people where was he in 1901??????

Blow me - I just can't believe it - that was one variant of the name I hadn't thought of.
This makes a mockery of the census if the enumerators can't read/spell!!

Thanks a lot however for this info - will be emailing America shortly.

Well done and thanks Annie!

Would just point out that the accepted spelling of the surname is TOYE certainly from grandfather's marriage.

His father Edwin was listed on the marriage cert. as a farmer (a misnomer I should think) in view of his varied previous occupations! Anyway the address was Mott Farm, Hurst Green. I've found a Mott Street but does anyone know where the farm was?

Hi Annie
can you add the census for Joseph Tibbetts onto his notes as head of house rather than Berthas/or just delete it then from Berthas as think you have added to Joseph already
and add that marriage for edwin and Matilda in the body template and surname for Matilda
pls

and then add kids for Edwin
oh and that death for Bertha and that would be brill

when Teifi joins we can add her name to the ancestors
and she can add to the info to build up more on said ancestors
