extracts from the book
will of edward above
The father Edward dates his Will at Dudley in 1837, but as it is endorsed "formerly of Dudley but late of Halesowen " he probably returned to his native place between 1837, and 1842 when he died, and at Halesowen he was buried 13 May 1842 aged 64. His wife Mary Fiddean was then living.

I agree with Peter. The Will, Peter's informant and the 1841 census all indicate that James is the youngest son of Edward 1778 and Mary Fiddean/Fiddian. It seems likely that it is James' older brother, Edward 1803, who married Phoebe Silk.
So, it looks like: Joseph Grove & Hannah Stringer I Samuel Grove b. abt 1735 & Esther Taylor I Edward b. abt 1778 & Mary Fiddean _____________ I_______________ I I Edward 1803_______________ James 1824 m. Phoebe Silk______________m. Ann Elizabeth Rose
Also next to Edward & Mary in 1841 are: Thomas Grove 40 b. abt 1801 nailor Y Mary Grove 40 b. abt 1801 nailor Y
Thomas Grove one of Edward and Mary's children?
And ... In 1861, on the same page as James & Ann Elizabeth, are: William Grove Head 61 b. abt 1800 Retired Publican b. Halesowen Fanny Grove Wife 61 b. Halesowen Charles Grove Son 30 b. abt 1831 Halesowen
William is the right age to be James' eldest brother.
