No Christmas market, hot pork sandwiches, brass band playing or Santa climbing down the church tower this year in our little town :( But, Santa will be travelling around the streets with his elves, throwing around plenty of sweets and switching on the Christmas lights in the town at 5.00 pm :P

This is always one of the highlights of the year for our small community. Let's all look forward to a happier 2021.

Maybe when all this is behind us we'll appreciate the good things in life. I doubt it but we can live in hope. Stay safe and hey let's be careful out there.

so that was a waste of money

As we both had it early in the year, before we knew it was in the country, we never had a Covid test. Fairly sure Mike picked it up on one of our many hospital visits, following his open heart surgery. He very nearly died. Then I went down with it, thinking I was maybe starting a mild cold. Only it knocked me off my feet and I had the long Covid version and only started to feel recovered, in August. So I have read a lot about it all and it seems many don't show antibodies but they do an immunity due to T Cells. Which is a form of defence system but don't ask me to explain it. I understand it when I read about it but I don't know enough to explain it to anyone else.

One thing that confirms, to me, that I had it is, Covid is the only virus known to man that actually 'turns off' the olfactory nerve. That is what causes the loss of taste and smell. Unlike a cold, when you lose those senses due to the nasal passages being blocked, I came downstairs one morning and suddenly realised I'd lost it all, completely. It was the weirdest thing, I was so concerned I grabbed a can of air freshener, sprayed some into the lid and sniffed and got nothing, nothing at all. I think it took a week or so to come back but I was so ill at that time, I don't remember.

Hope everyone is keeping safe and that you all manage to enjoy Christmas. x

I live in Manchester so been in Tier 3 since the summer so not ready for Christmas at all due to restrictions but ready for it as a short respite from everything.
I am cautious about going out as I live in a retirement flat and some of the other residents are vulnerable and also my daughter is heavily pregnant with an imminent due date.
