Don't take census records as gospel, you need evidence that he was married.
Lydia/Elizabeth died as Whittaker so wasn't married to John.

Does it say an address on the asylum records or what children she had?

Yes, I think you're right and John Price was just another adopter of Lydia's children - for whatever reasons. It's nice to see that Lilian got married.
