George Swettenham is easier to find. Where to he get to in Australia? At least they were kept together in prison and transportation!


have you ever tried finding these as it will lead you to the area he was in when the crime was committed or do you know that already ?

My DNA links me to an Enoch Stevenson bn Stone, Staffordshire in 1819 and died in Kansas USA 1890

Where does that 1819 come from? I can see it on an Ancestry tree, but it does not match his age in any census or the immigration record.

Have you chased down his marriage record? Did he marry two different Harriets? You should be able to get his father from a marriage certificate, and that would help hugely.

Also, who were the Joseph and Thomas who emigrated with Enoch and Harriet?

I noticed that Enoch was listed as Plymouth Brethren on one census record. That is perhaps why he is hard to locate for a baptism.

My American contacts have told me that the other two Stevenson’s were NEPHEWS...but I don’t think they know where they ended up in USA.
I’ve not tried for a marriage certificate for Enoch, only the information provided by his ancestors in USA.
I’ll see what I can do with regard that, I’ve found it difficult to track down certificates in UK without information....more than happy to try and obtain them though

Just been back over information from family in USA, and I’m also wondering about this Hariett...the records state she was Hariett Donkin and they married in 1841; they’re on census records with her parents

I looked up baptisms for a couple Philip Stevenson and Maria. They seem to have children baptised in the parish church at Stone between 1802 and 1810, including a Philip in 1804. I think he married Harriet Allman and they are the parents of Elizabeth b. 1845.

Philip and Maria seem to have switched to a non-conformist congregation after that, and have children baptised at Stone Independent Chapel in 1812, 1814 and 1816. I can't find a baptism for Enoch there, but he might well belong to this family. His age seems quite consistent in the records (not that that means much!) so born around 1824. It would be nice to get the second marriage checked for his father's name, but I don't know which church it was it, and it may even have been in a registry office.
