Hi Linell! You might be wondering how you came to have a cousin born and bred in Melbourne, Australia and now living in the Black Country? Well...

My dad Arthur Holloway (b. 1931 in Liverpool) was the Gt Gt grandson of Henry Hollloway (b. 1809 Saltwells, Dudley) ...and that's the Henry who was the father of Arthur who married your Gt Gt Aunt Louisa

My dad was a merchant seaman and came to Melbourne, Australia in the 1950's and on one of those visits he met my mum (Margaret) and the rest is... history! He stayed in Australia and had us three kids, me in 1971.

It wasn't until the mid 1990s that I went travelling and ended up in England... and then in 2002 met the love of my life Wayne (yes... WAYNE) in the midlands, he's a Tipton lad through and through, his family go back several generations all living in Horsely Heath, Dudley Port. We live in Great Bridge, Tipton, since 2003.

It was when the 1911 census went live last year and i saw it reported on the news and it got me curious about genealogy, so I did a search for my grandfather (cos I knew dad was from Liverpool and thought it would go back several generations around Liverpool). I then began leaping frogging back going from one census to the previous one...

Then, to my great surprise, I discovered that only a few generations back my family turns out to be from Dudley, only a few miles up the road from where Wayne and I live today.

life's funny, eh?

Nick

Our pleasure Nick
Your info helped us make the connections that were on the tree but it is that missing link that just puts the final piece in place.

Pleased that the BCC tree may be of use to you

That's a great romantic tale Nick, so pleased it has all fallen into place for you. I also have Cousins in Melbourne, but from my Grandfather's family, the Stringers were my Nan's family. I know from my Mom that Arthur was a real Gent, very respected in the Community. Louisa lived into her 90's, I have a picture of her, nice looking lady, used to walk miles apparently, she and her sister who was my Gt Gt Grandmother Maria Stringer used to walk up the Clent hills well into their 80's, that would have entailed walking from Cradley Heath, up to Clent and back again, doesn't bear thinking about! Best Wishes from Linell.
