Farside, thank you so much! You are amazing! Your medal is in the post!
How did you do that by the way? So, there were 2 mary Brutons, born in the same year, in the small village of Stoke Bliss?!
Any suggestions on what I can do to find out which one is "our" one....

Hi - I couldn't sleep so looked for something to think about and tried to follow this thread through
This could be a complete red herring but
I followed Farside's suggestion with a 5 year range and noticed that
Mary Brueton christened 07 NOV 1768 Bishops Frome, Hereford, England has parents William
Bruton and
Mary Holder.
I don't know Hereford so this might but a complete no go but does it give you a legitimate possibility!!

Hi Sharon, we all get back to this point in our research, you either stop at where you have got or make your best guess on what information you have gleaned. I have two Gt Gt Gt Grandfather's who's parents could be anyone, have had to give up on them. From what you have found regarding the sad back ground to the family, it does seem a strong possibility that Mary was illigitimate, no one can tell you for sure, you have to decide what is the most logical conclusion. Did you say this isn't your tree but for someone else? Sorry lost the info from page one at the moment. Best Wishes from Linell.

Yes Linnell this is a friends tree...we now know William & the twin boys baptised at Astley in 1788/9 to mary bruton,no father named. only William survived, married Eleanor Hill and became a mason at Stoke Bliss....2 mary brutons born at Stoke Bliss in Jan & Nov 1766, one to William & Ann, one to Elizabeth...
there's probably several more possibilities! guess, as you say, this is the dead end
after all, we all stop somewhere!
Thanks all yet again...

Sharon, think you've hit the nail on the head there

We can only go as far as the records allow us too, as you say they all run out eventually. Best Wishes from Linell.
