for hannah hounour is there a death notice in the local paper ?

Daughter Elizabeth HONOR married George FRANKUM Sep 1887 Reading vol 2c page 587. Today I'll apply for the certificate.

Death notices, no I haven't. This is a line of research I've recently started. I've rarely searched news paper notices as I've had little success. Any advise?

the local library to the address on the death cert might tell you where the micro film of any local paper will be kept, i got one for a relative and it name quite a few people i didnt know about, worth a try but 1892 might be too far back ?

Have just sent off for birth & death certificates for all the HONOR children, except death of Alfred 2nd (Granddad) & Joseph, I've no idea where he was at death. I'll try the local libraries for newspaper notices.

I wonder if the 1939 register (see post viewtopic.php?f=83&t=17290) is worth paying for? I had assumed that it just recorded names as they were in 1939, but posts on another forum state include an example where a woman's married name from a 2nd marriage in 1946 is included. So she is down as First-name Married-name-1946 (Married-name-1938). So the register must have been updated later, possibly up until 1952 when the Act was repealed.
Which means it is just possible that your grandfather's name includes the other one - if he had given information for his pension.

Though it looks unlikely as he is listed as

Albert E Oner 1881 Petersfield U.D. Hampshire

He may be listed as Albert E Oner but that's the first time I've seen his birth year as 1881 (the year Alfred HONOR was born). When Granddad enlisted in 4 Nov 1897 he gave his age as 18 years and 4 months, meaning he was born July 1879, a two year difference! I don't have a Find My Past subscription so I'll see if I can 'pay by the search', I'd like to have the full birth date.

That was a good find gardener, in the 1939 Register Granddad gave is birthdate as 20 Nov 1881 the same date Alfred HONOR 1st was born. Only Alfred died shortly after, which I'm hoping to confirm when I receive the certificates. It looks as though the old fox took on his brother's birth date making him a year older than he really was. I'd love to know why he did that, if in fact Alfred 2nd is Albert E ONER.
