BC Wench wrote:Yes, I do know that there is a churchyard (around the church) and a graveyard (Victoria Road.) I should have said in my post that my burials were in the church grounds. Anyway, that could mean that there are MI's for the churchyard and not the graveyard in Victoria Road :?:

Nice one NL in following this up with the council.

You're definitely right, not every entry in the burial register has a grave number.

Just wondered Barb if you could maybe check with Dudley archives to see if they have Monumental Inscripts for the churchyard at Q.Bank christchurch and maybe a graveyard plan?
Only if you time and got a contact

I asked P. for the one at Victoria Road....they might have them for the actual churchyard.

Will let you know when my contact gets back to me Jan

I've just been thinking (very rare I know) where you say

[quote= I was thinking if there is a grave up that end that is still visible and we know the number from the burial book say it is 1020 ...and say I am after
1023...which I am.....then we know it is near there...would that be a way of finding them. [/quote]

When I was looking for graves in the Dudley Cemetery on the Stourbridge Road, Queens Cross, I had the cemetery plan which was marked in Sections A, B, C etc. and the grave number, say 1020. This number was embedded in the back of the headstone near to the ground, so I looked for the nearest number to 1020 and went along the row where all the grave numbers ran consecutively and found them.

So, I'm wondering if the same could be done for the Victoria Road site. Probably too big a task though as you don't have the graveyard marked off in sections like I did.

I've just heard back from my contact. There are no monumental inscriptions books for Christ Church, Quarry Bank or any printed transcripts and there's no reference to a graveyard plan in the Archives collection for this church either.

I can only think the plot numbers that I have are ones that a contact had given to me when he was searching for his family.

Thanks Barb and DT

I have checked with the Diocese at Worcs they don't have anything.

I am waiting to hear now back from Dudley as to when the Brambles will be cleared.

Barb re the trying to do our own Plan...All the burials don't have entry nos in the burial register
so there is a burial in books but not an entry no /grave entry no....and thinking about it I would need some
big help working it all out....too much for me on my own....and my brain

I think if the Brambles are cleared then at least we can get some photos and transcribe the Graves then maybe look at who they
are in the Burial register and the numbers /Grave entry nos.....then maybe there maybe some order or pattern of rows etc....
but it is too big to do for one person.

I am uploading some photos to Bcc courtesy of Rf
I will list them here too and put link on as I do them in a new post....then anyone looking can find them.

The best way to do it is print a map of from google earth section it, photograph by section and transcribe section at a time so you can call the section a - z and number grave 1 - 100 for each section,so if there is any reference markes uncoverd will photgraph them too
