Andrew, for what it's worth I think your tutorial could be very useful to a lot of people

Ancestry vs FMP? I have both and it is an easy choice. Ancestry kills FMP hands down if you are researching people outside of the UK.

Some of FMP's indexes are more up to date and accurate but not by much.

The deal just struck between Ancestry and FamilySearch is a good one but still, the FamilySearch stuff will still be available to FMP users.

Pay Peanuts get monkey, Pay nothing get Amoeba and ancestry get even more horrendously transcribed databases.

According to the announcement, "The two services will work together with the archive community over the next five years to digitize, index and publish these records from the FamilySearch vault. ... Ancestry.com expects to invest more than $60 million over the next five years in the project alongside thousands of hours of volunteer efforts facilitated by FamilySearch."

Its great going on line ,Ancestry FMP etc, and finding images of relatives Baptisms, marriages, but nothing beats the feel of going to your local library ,and seeing with your own eyes .

On the same film?? Some Archives won`t get the originals out if they are on film - and film and fiche readers are on the way out fast - so putting the films on line makes a lot of sense giving more people access who cannot get to the Archives through disability or Geography

That is very true RF , but when I went to the Hive a few months ago , I wanted a marriage that was not on Film ,and off they went down to the vaults ,and came back with a enormous book ,laid it on a very large pillow . I was allowed a pencil and paper ,nothing else. It was marvelous . I know they cannot do that for every marriage, but I found it quite exciting . I know some people might find that hilarious , and wonder why I would get so excited ,but that's just me. Also you do not pay at the library , how much will ancestry and others make when all this takes off ? . Should not our large public library's start putting it all on line ?

No DT, I think we're all a bit like that. Most of my research has been done on the net, but when I occaisionally get to see a document "in the flesh", it's so rewarding!
