I thought it was o.k. I've always thought that being in a Workhouse was probably better than being destitute, at least they got fed, albeit meagre portions, and a bed.

I found it unbelievable that Barbara T-B didn't know anything about her mother's childhood. Did she ever speak to her mother? Surely there would have been some little snippet of her mother's upbringing?

Hmm ,I would have thought she knew , probably embarrassed by how poor she was. Perhaps it was the premarital sex .
