copea wrote:Many thanks for everyone's input. BCC is not accurate for this branch of the Willetts; this is I believe the correct situation:-
Zeanas Willetts b 1846 Married Emily Brazier C1866
Children of the above marriage were William B 1867; Samuel B 1869; Joseph B 1876 and Thomas Born 1877 (Thomas is a bit of a mystery as he "took to the roadf" and we dont know where or when he died but think it may have been Bromsgrove. We fdo know he tramped the road between Chester and the Black Country regularly)
Emily Brazier died 1876.
Zenas Willetts then married Catherine (Kate) Young in 1880 in Newcastle. Kate already had a child called Josiah Frederick born in 1879. This child is a bit of a mystery and remained in Newcastle living with his grandfather William Young.
Zenas and Kate issued the following children Martha B 1882; Rebecca B 1863; Eliza B 1884 Sarah B 1887; Albert B 1889 (Chester);v Lizzie B 1893; Marion B 18954; Alice B 1898. Some Census's show a Gladys-She was a daughter of one of the boys from the previous marriage.
Albert married Amy Davies and they had one child Danetree Joan Willetts B 1919 (Still alive). She married Stephen Cope and had two childrem Pamela Cope 1947 and Andrew Cope (thats me!) 1955.
Zenas's parents were John Willetts and he married Hannah Garrett as BCC says. I believe that his father was also a John Willetts but it was such a common name its difficult to pin down.
Hope this makes sense! I have quite a lot more on this branch of the Willetts but mystery surrounds Tom Willetts mentioned above and Josiah Frederick who I believe was always known as Fred.

Sarah???? where is she on census?
do you have a birth certif for her?

Ok these are the records I have to hand. Starting with oldest; John Willetts (Chainmaker) married Hannah Garratt 18th May 1840 at Clent Church. John Willetts father shown (confusingly) also as John Willetts (Nailer). Hannah Garretts father was Julius Garrett. The wedding was witnessed by Thomas and Barbara Garbetts. (I have the marriage Cert)
Zenas Willetts born April 1843 living at New Town in the parish of Rowley. (Think this is New Town Cradley Heath not New Town Walsall) I have the certificate.
Zenas married Emily Brazier in 1865 (I have the m/certificate)
This marriage produced 4 boys; William, Samuel, Joseph and Thomas. I have a b/cert for Joseph and he was born in 1875 in Gateshead. Joseph had a child called Gladys who was looked after by Zenas's family for a while after the death of Josephs wife. This causes some confusion as she is shown as Zenas's daughter on the 1901 census.
Samuel lived his life in Chester, Thomas took to the road, particularly the Chester to Dudley road, and we dont know what happened to him but think he died a tramp in Barnsley Hall Bromsgrove. (family story) Would love to know when he died but several Tom Willetts so difficult to establish)
Emily Willetts (Brazier) died around 1877 when family moved to Newcastle.
Zenas married Catherine Young in 1880. Catherine (often referred to as Kate on Census and real life)was daughter of William Young and had a child Josiah Frederick by someone unknown. I have his birth certificate but no other detail. It seems he remained in Newcastle with his Grandfather when the Willetts moved on.This family had moved from Tividale to Newcastle around the same time as the Willetts. Kate's sister, Lisa (or Eliza) later married Tom Sitch the Chainmakers Union founder.
The family then (around 1888) moved to Saltney in Chester for a couple of years before moiving back to Brierley Hill around 1894. Zenas had the following children with Kate; Martha born Gateshead 1882; Rebecca born Gateshead 1883; Eliza Gateshead 1884; Sarah (sometimes called Jane) Gateshead 1887; Albert Chester 1889; Lizzie Chester 1893; Marion Brierley Hill 1895; Alice Brierley Hill 1898.
Albert married Amy Davies of Bridgnorth Road Wollaston in 1913 they had a daughter Danetree Joan Willetts in 1919. Amy died in 1920 of TB. Danetree Joan married Stephen Cope in 1946. They had two children Pamela Cope 1947 and Andrew Cope (thats me!) in 1955.
Hope this helps!
