Hi DT - I still live in Langley - by the park. The Hen and Chickens became the Wing Wah a few years ago - it's now changed again and is called Flavors. Do you remember Oldbury College on the Wolverhampton Road, corner of Pound Road. Well, a couple of months ago they pulled it down and have already built houses on it.

We used to go sledging in Warley Woods, in the days when we had loads of snow. We took my daughters kids up there about five years ago when we had enough snow to sledge on - they loved it. - I'v e added a photo

Pete thinks we might be connected through the Hughes family. We actually connect through my brother in Law's family the Harvey's of Oldbury here : http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/fa ... vey-Family

Hi , Everyone, Just been to a boot sale, otherwise i would have been on earlier. Yes we are connected through the Hughes, Abigail Hodgkiss is my 2nd great grannie. My uncle Beric Hughes used to live in Windsor Road at the back of the Hen and Chickens, and his sister lived more or less opposite the pub. When i first got married i lived in Broadway. :-)

Bearwood - well fancy - we didn't go to Bearwood we went up the Bear!! Having lived in Smethwick (no it isn't Smerrick!) for many years this post was a trip down Memory Lane. My Aunt managed the sweets and tobacco shop Thorntons, next door was Freeman, Hardy Willis and a couple of doors lower down was Thorpes the greengrocers.

It was a regular walk for us on Sunday afternoons (when fine) and it ended in a lovely walk through Warley Woods, Lightwood and the extension - happy days!

Must try that Pete, sounds very nice. Reading about Pernod last night. It was very interesting . All the French artist used to drink it, and it was called Absinthe ,made from herbs, which give it its aniseed taste. Apparently it could make you feel a bit odd so was banned. Now its made differently ,and within the law. 8) .Johnny Depp drank it in the film" From Hell", and it has been seen in many films and plays throughout the years. :-) Dt
