I've been spending a bit of time on my Channel Islands family so I've neglected these good Black Country folk in the past few weeks. Just been paid so I'll follow up a few of these certificates over the weekend.... Just found Christophers record of probate on Ancestry too.

Thanks  I will be ordering Christophers birth certificate anyway just for completeness. I've got the names of the spouses for most of the Hill children now, but I will post these when I can prove that they're right.

have added in that Hill marriage we are working on another thread for Wm Hill and Ann Davies.
And trying to find who she married first ...

but not sure if you fancy ordering that Francis Smith b 1847 to see who his parents are

we could then add in who he links to I have the marriage info and added it on Ann Davies b 1808 notes
but on 1851 he is down as bro in law to Wm so although on marriage father is Wm could be mary is his mother
and father just added for appearances.

up to you not sure if you are running with the Smiths line

I'll have a look at it and see.
I have the death details for Christopher Hill.. taken from National Probate calender.
Hill, Christopher, of 49 St Andrews Street Netherton, Dudley. Worcestershire, haulier, died 4 February 1898. Administration Worcester 18 April 1898 to William Hill, labourer, effects £156 8s 9d.
I can confirm the address as correct as my mother used to visit her grandad William (Christopers son) and her uncles and aunties at the same address.

Before this one gets archived I've got a query - my great grandfather William Hill (son of Christopher Hill) was born in Netherton abt 1859 and died in Netherton in the 1930s. I know that he married (Ann) Matilda Hodgkiss (or Hotchkiss as it says on wedding certificate) on August 20th 1882 but the other two dates are subject to question.
There are three possible births for William Hill... 1858 DUD/070/87; 1859 DUD/074/191 or 1859 DUD/077/6
There are also 2 possible deaths - 1932 DUD/179/95 or 1936 DUD/02A/425.
He is listed as being 2 on the 1861 census, 12 on the 1871 census, 22 in 1881 and 24 on his marriage certificate in August 1882. He was definitely living with my grandparents in Walker Street, Netherton after his wife died in 1927, and my mother, who was born in 1928, can remember him being there when she was very young, he used to warm his beer up by the fire just like he did when he was working in the nail shop. He died at the house but Mum's not sure how old she was when he died. Is the only way of making sure which one is correct to purchase all the certificates? I'm still a bit of a beginner at all this genealogy lark
