It is not clear, but it is possible Jeremiah played a role in the 'Battle of Bulli'. Mary Ann may have also played a role as one of the women at the forefront of the Battle. It is a story full of tragedy, and when it looked like things were getting back to normal after prolonged strike action by the miners, the mine blew up.

Historian Michael Organ wrote this account of the final months of these 81 men's lives, which includes Jeremiah Westwood.

Full article here: http://www.uow.edu.au/~morgan/bulli1887.htm

There is also a short documentary about the Battle of Bulli, the explosion and other related events here such as Mt Kembla mine disaster: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zrHb3dbF8I

Yes I have grandfather's notes on the marriage and other relatives - there is some dispute it would appear over whether Jeremiah's mother's name was True or Truth. My records say Truth, but the Black Country records here state True.

I also know that - wait for it - their first daughter Martha Hero Westwood (named after the Scottish Hero ship mentioned earlier, it would seem) was born at sea, and is thus registered as being born in Rockhampton where the ship arrived.
