Husband gives same Valentine’s Day card for 34 years!

I sent 2 last year and that was it

About 15 years ago I realised I had forgotten to get a Valentine card for my husband Luckily I had some tubes of coloured icing so I iced a message on a digestive biscuit, wrapped it in tissue and popped it in an envelope. Last year we were moving from one office space to another and in amongst the stuff was the biscuit wrapped in cling film! Not even mouldy.

This year my son got cupcakes decorated with space invader-shaped chocolates from his girlfriend. I don't think lack of money matters too much.

When I first moved here Icelanders didn't "do" Valentines so there were no cards and I often had to improvise. Now there is a bit of a fuss made about it but as it is follwed by the more traditional "woman's day" (on Sunday) most men still go for that - I often get flowers both days

When I moved to Denmark, they didn't really celebrate Valentine's day, but now everybody knows about it, and the youngsters don't realise that it's a new tradition.
Other traditions are also being adopted, such as halloween, thanksgiving and pancake day. I'm not a fan, as it's usually to make money that these traditions are introduced, and the reasons behind them aren't explained - no one knows that pancake day marks the beginning of lent, or that halloween is the day before all saints day! It's all about selling cards, turkeys and pancake pans!!

My husbands a wiz with pancakes (first meal he ever made for me - had to introduce him to lemon and sugar though!), we have two ordinary frying pans cos it's quicker that way. He puts vanilla sugar and cardamom in them.
We do eat pancakes on pancake day, this year we have friends coming. My husband makes a huge stack in advance(and I mean huge!), then they get covered in foil put in the oven, with a meat thermometer - he knows exactly what temperature they should be at.
He's just found a recipe for chocolate pancakes that's got grand marnier in, so we've been having those a lot too.
