This year my son got cupcakes decorated with space invader-shaped chocolates from his girlfriend. I don't think lack of money matters too much.
When I first moved here Icelanders didn't "do" Valentines so there were no cards and I often had to improvise. Now there is a bit of a fuss made about it but as it is follwed by the more traditional "woman's day" (on Sunday) most men still go for that - I often get flowers both days
