Might be a connection here Dennis, will add the details. Do you have the full marriage details please?

If you look at th Bastable's I added today - you will see a Wood connection. Anything to do with your family?

There is also a connection with the Underhills. Been meaning to find out for ages the origins of Underhill Street in Langley.

Found a marriage for Edward Bastable to Ruth Hodgetts - Sept Qtr 1858 - Stourbridge District - Not on West Midlands BMD, so probably Christ Church, Quinton - do you think it's safe to add NL? - everything seems to tie in

Pretty sure he connects to the Edward and Mary in Rood End. I've found them on all census - just haven't had time to add them. Do it later on

This is a bit wierd

Have added William George Bastable who died in WW1 here :

http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =815228798

Additional Information on CWGC site:
Son of W. G. and Margaret Bastable, of 37, Dibble Rd., Smethwick, Staffs.; husband of Elizabeth Abbey (formerly Bastable), of 16, Nelson St., Oldbury, Birmingham.

William is with his parents William and Margaret here :

1891 : 8 Back Spon Lane, West Bromwich
William Bastable, Head, 27, Glass Worker
Margaret Bastable, Wife, 24
William Bastable, Son, 5, Scholar
Albert Bastable, Son, 3
George Bastable, 8 Months

1901 : Back 49 Neal Street, West Bromwich
William Not at Home
Margaret Bastable, Head, 33
William Bastable, Son, 15, Out of Work
Jerry Bastable, Son, 10
Fred Bastable, Son, 8
Harry Bastable, Son, 5
George Bastable, 8 Months

Can't find any of the family in 1911

There is a marriage on WMBMD for William Bastable and Margaret McGuiness - West Bromwich Register Office - 1889 (Might this be a catholic marriage at St Francis? - does anyone have details)

I can't find another marriage for William Bastable and a Elizabeth- except for the one to Elizabeth Keefe.

The William who married Elizabeth Keefe seems to have been adopted by the Walker Family here :

1881 : 8 Nelson Street, Oldbury
William Walker, Head, 40, Labourer, Born in Brailes, Warks
Jane Walker, Wife, 38, West Bromwich, Staffs
William Bastable, Adopted Son, 4, Errand Boy, Born in Oldbury, Worcs

1891 : 8 Nelson Street, Oldbury
William Walker, Head, 50, Labourer, Born in Brailes, Warks
Jane Walker, Wife, 48, Tipton, Staffs
William Bastable, Adopted Son, 15, Errand Boy, Born in Oldbury, Worcs
George Powell, Boarder, 51, Labourer, Born in Quinton

1901 : 4 Nelson Street, Oldbury, Worcestershire
William Geo Bastable, Head, 24, Labourer at Chemical Works
Elizabeth Bastable, Wife, 22
William G Bastable, Son, 2
John Edward Bastable, Son, 11 Months
All born Oldbury

1911 : 16 Nelson St, Tat Bank, Oldbury
William G Bastable, Head, 34, Process Man, Cyanide Works
Elizabeth Bastable, Wife, 32, Married 12 yrs, 6 children still living out of 7
William G Bastable, Son, 12
John Edward Bastable, Son, 10
Elizabeth Bastable, Daur, 8
Leonard Bastable, Son, 5
Ida Jane Bastable, Daur, 3
Hellen Bastable, Daur, 6 Months
All born Oldbury
William Walker, Boarder, 70, Wid, Retired Labourer at Chemical Coy (company), Born in Brailes

Note on Ancestry : 1881 census shows William as being adopted and living with the Walkers. No trace of William's parents Mary - William's daughter said she was brought up by the Walkers after William was killed in the war and her mom remarried to Fred Abbey. Nelson street Tat bank oldbury

So - could this be the same person, if his mother Margaret has also shown him on her census.

Confused.com :?

Any ideas ????

After spending a good 4 hours on this bit of the Bastables I have come up with this family :

I have found the marriage for Edward Bastable and Margaret Edwards and have added here : http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =964925348

Margaret, a widow, and her children are living at 34 Dibble Road in Smethwick in 1911, very near the address of the parents of William George Bastable who died in WW1.

Thanks Dennis, that's great, I'll add this to BCC. Do you know who his parents are ?

A few trees on Ancestry have his parents as Edward and Margaret, which is what I was thinking until I saw the entry on CWGC site which gives his parents as WG and Margaret.

I had thought that it was Edward and Ruth Bastable in Rood End, Antie Em, but I was obviously wrong! These are the Abbeys as far as I can see:

Descendants of Frederick Charles Abbey

Generation No. 1

1. FREDERICK CHARLES2 ABBEY (THOMAS1) was born Abt. Sep 1877 in Oldbury, Worcestershire, and died Abt. Dec 1941 in Oldbury, Worcestershire. He married (1) SARAH SIMCOX Abt. Dec 1898 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, daughter of SAMUEL? SIMCOX. She was born Abt. 1873 in Oldbury, Worcestershire, and died Abt. Mar 1915 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire. He married (2) ELIZABETH KEEFE 03 Aug 1919 in St Francis Xavier R C church, Oldbury, Worcs, daughter of JOHN KEEFE and PHOEBE MATTHEWS. She was born Abt. Apr 1879 in Oldbury, Worcestershire, and died Abt. Dec 1936 in Oldbury, Worcestershire.

Marriage Notes for FREDERICK ABBEY and ELIZABETH KEEFE:
Married by Rev. Vincent O'Reilly, witnesses: Honor(a) Perks, William G. Bastable. "Disp. Mixt. Relig. obtenta" - dispensation for mixed marriage obtained.

Children of FREDERICK ABBEY and SARAH SIMCOX are:
i. JOHN HORACE3 ABBEY, b. Abt. Mar 1901, West Bromwich, Staffordshire.

Notes for JOHN HORACE ABBEY:
Or John Hollis Abbey 1901 census? Married Elsie Compton 1920, West Bromwich.

The ages are all wrong for the 2 Wms
one is b 1876
other b 1886

This Wm is born abt 1877
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =197817443

poss here
1876
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Reference
BASTABLE William G Oldbury Sandwell Register Office OLD/56/80

and married Elizabeth Keefe
she then marries Frederick Abbey ( I have connected that bit up)

The other one here is way out in age
and father is too young
b abt 1864
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =358275641

here are more kids

Births Jun 1913
Bastable Herbert Keefe W.Bromwich 6b 1690

Births Jun 1914
Bastable Mary A Keefe W.Bromwich 6b 16

Wm born 1864 marries Margaret in prob 1898?

is this Wm born 1886 birth ...bit earlier than on census age
1884
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Reference
BASTABLE William G Oldbury Sandwell Register Office OLD/70/318

The one born 1884 is too young to marry in 1898 to Elizabeth Keefe.

So why on that CWCG report are parents Wm and Margaret?
