Mike.

I agree Mike, I wonder if you remember the old 'Adelphie' Ballroom
in West Bromwich....Johnny Gray & his Band of Today...

Shouldn't that be "Teddy Gray and his Band of Rock" ?

It's how I remember the 50s, in fact, when I go to the BCLM, much of that is how I remember my early childhood. There were many older women still wearing long black Edwardian dresses. Many poorer areas hadn't really moved on after the War, some of them still haven't

The first song was by the Duprees !........The original was done by Joni James in the 1950s.

I tell you what though she's good Joni James.Never heard of her before but she's really good.
I'm listening a lot to these singers late 40's early 50's just before rock and roll.
Helen Forrest she's good as well.
Thanks Micheal for putting me onto Joni James. i googled ( something i rarely do) her and she's still alive.

I do love the programme, but... I was a child of the 50s living in Dudley and I can never ever remember the people looking as dirty as that where I lived and there were some big families at that time. I suppose it would have been like that in the back to back type of houses. Fashion was quite true by my reckoning.

I think the series so far is pretty good but i'm still having problems with the feel of it.Probably because it's set in the East End and thats how it was for them then.
Like Barbie (although i think she's older than me!!) i'm a child of the 50's and i lived in a back to back in Eel Street one room down and one room up and it was never as squalid as that.Barbie and Antie Em say the fashion looks good so why am i still having problems?
Why am i such a,what's the phrase? Nit-picker? :?
