I think we are ok on Bcc with Edward linked to father Joseph
as on 1851 he is with brother Richard

15 Feb 1874 St Andrew Dudley
Jabez BRITTLE M B Collier Dudley Father Edward Brittle Comb Maker
Prudence GORTON F S Woodside Father Joseph Gorton Labourer
Wit; Charles Gorton Ann Bennett

adding this in.

I think Jabez is prob regis as a round but certif would need to be explored

Do you know how Elizabeth Shakespeare fits in? She was a Brettle but born at sea?

 Born at sea according to '51 and '61 census, doesn't help much.

1841
Jos Brettell 45 nailer y
Eliz ditto 45 ditto ditto
Jos ditto 20 ditto ditto
Jn ditto 12 ditto ditto
Edwd ditto 6 y
Richd ditto 4 y

If Elizabeth was about 26 in 1841 then she could fit in that family but can't really tell.

So you mean Elizabeth could be older sister to Edward

are there any bapts for this family?

St Thos Dudley

John Brettell 10 Dec 1826 Joseph Brettell, Elizth
Edward Brettle 20 Feb 1833 Joseph Brettle, Elizabeth
Richard Brettell 17 Nov 1822 Joseph Brettell, Elizth

:? Only Edward fits the census stuff.

Well, if she was born at sea it could have been in either direction so she could have been baptised anywhere or nowhere.
I was trying to recall, didn't some iron-working families go to Europe around that time? I'm thinking Belgium but not sure about that.

Dawna hope that has helped a little

as we have a query with Elizabeth Brettle on this I am moving now to brick walls
maybe some one can find a connection with Joseph Brettell and wife Elizabeth
and how Jabez connects and why there on census with them as a boarder

he may be nephew to Elizabeth?
