Am I the only one to enjoy the dark nights closing the curtains early and enjoying an open fire.

No Nessa, I love it too, just lacking the open fire! I light candles instead. I love the run up to Christmas - usually have my Christmas shopping done by the first week in December, so I get to enjoy it. My fingers are itching for the first sunday in Advent, so that the Advent Crown can come out (no not the Blue Peter version!). And then every week until Christmas the decorations increase in number. Not to mention mince pies......

I'll wait for that for another few weeks, but I can't wait for the rest - you do know the first sonday in Advent is the 27th November?

'No decs 'til Christmas Eve and they stay 'til Twelfth Night' is the rule in this house - a rule that tends to get broken as the cards come in and, as Christmas Eve is a busy socialising time for us, we tend to put the decs up the day before.

And I hate candles but love the open fire; over the Christmas period I try to ensure it never goes out - lighting the morning fire from the embers of the night before without the use of match or paper, it can sometimes take a couple of hours before it bursts into flame but it's rare that I have to cheat.

Decorations are down before New Years Eve in our house!
