carolina wrote:Has anyone come across the family of Robert and Elizabeth Evans (Kingswinford and Cradley)in their research? Am trying to trace Emma chr 4 Sept 1837 Brierley Hill (marriage to William Onions 1861) - was hoping a census record might lead me to the rest of the family but not succeeded so far with 1841. I think Robert died in 1838 - so where were the others after this.

thanks Mally

start with Robert Evans wife Elizabeth and dau emma

The info I have is on Elizabeth, sister to Emma Evans:

Elizabeth Evans marriage to William Griffiths 20 November 1848 St Thomas.
William bachelor, blacksmith of Castle Street age 23
Elizabeth spinster Castle Street age 19
Parents: William Griffiths (deceased) labourer; Robert Evans (deceased) millman
William signed; Elizabeth mark
Witnesses George Corbett; Martha Evans (probably bride's other sister)

The Griffiths are on the 1861 census at 177 Lockside Tipton next door to the Harris family at 176 as identified yesterday.

Parents: Robert Evans and Elizabeth Reese marriage 21 April 1823 Kingswinford. This is the only Robert/Elizabeth I've come across - but not concrete proof.

note that on remarriage to William Harris in 1839, Elizabeth Evans snr gives her father's name as Thomas Taff - not the Reese surname.

[A quick check on IGI shows a Thomas Taff in Bewdley and an Elizabeth Reese born to a mother of the same name - so it could be correct. Work in progress]

Looks good on BCC. There is the other sibling Martha to add - chr 20 Nov 1825 Brierley Hill (Robert and Elizabeth)

The Robert Evans - Elizabeth Reese marriage looks correct despite Elizabeth giving father's name as Thomas Taff on her remarriage in 1839. The sequence would seem to be:

Elizabeth Reece chr April 1797 Cleobury Mortimer to mother Elizabeth

Marriage Elizabeth Reece to Thomas Tafft 30 Oct 1798 Cleobury Mortimer.

Elizabeth Reece jnr gives birthplace as Bewdley and also Cleobury Mortimer - so this would seem to fit.

Thanks everyone!
