I was wondering if he was still alive in 1881, Thomas and Eliza's dau Elizabeth says born West Bromwich.

Yep looks like that family is here
1881. Homestead, Road, Handsworth
Thomas Whitehouse, head, 53, Coal Miner, Tipton
Eliza, wife, 52, Miners wife
Henry, son, 18, Coal Miner
John, son, 16, Coal Miner
/William Bateman, lodger, 17, General Labourer, Oldbury
All others West Bromwich

So wrong one then.

Yes you did Mally , talk about bad day at black rock I need rubbing out and drawing again, but first will say a big sorry to Grangers and Jimmy for wasting their time .
