if you havent got the marriage with Edward Hammond its probably the best thing to buy. It will say her fathers name unless she didnt have a father

Hi Jo
Thanks for looking. You are certainly very thorough!
When I've got some spare cash there are a few original certificates that I need to get.
I am also trying to trace my father's side of the family, which is also proving to be a little difficult. My father's name is Alfred Henry Brown and his parents died in 1940 in the Blitz. (At least his Mum did!)
When I started investigating his side of the family I found that his mum died in 1940 in the family home, but his dad didn't. This didn't strike me as odd as I had assumed his father would have been fighting in the war at that time as he was the right age. It appears that he died in the war in 1942. My dad has no recollection of this at all.
My dad is absolutely convinced that his mum and dad were both in the house at the time of the bombing, but he was only 12 at the time and was injured in the bomb attack himself.
Anyway, that is another avenue to go down when I have the time. Brown isn't the easiest name to trace!
Thanks for your help so far.
Julie

Hi Jo
I have finally received the marriage certificate between Florence Simmons and Edward Hammond. She has stated that her father was Henry Arminger, which confirms what I thought. It doesn't, however, get me any closer to finding a birth certificate for my grandfather Henry.
I have found his school admission records and his birthday is noted as 16.6.1888. He doesn't appear to have been registered at birth as either Henry Arminger or Henry Simmons, so I am at a loss as to what to try next.
Any ideas!

I have looked for the birth of Elenor and have found a birth of Eleanor Florence born June Qtr 1886 in Mile End NOT St. George in the East. Bessie is NOT Bessie Arminger she appears to be Bessie Roberts born Dec Qtr 1889 in St. George in the East. I don't know who the mother is as Minnie may have been too young to have Eleanor, but could be the mother of Bessie.
Maybe there are some Baptism records that would show who the parents are.
Unfortunately, it doesn't help me find my grandfather who doesn't appear to have been registered as Simmons or Arminger.
Thanks for your help with this problem.
